Undervolting without fixed voltage possible?

    Hi everybody,

I couldn't find anything on this in the forum so I'll ask about it here:

I am undervolting my AMD 6850 for quite some time now (0.975V) and didn't have any stability problems with it. But then I found out that by using this option the card runs at higher voltage when no 3d is used as the energy saving of the video card is disabled. As my PC most of the time runs in 2d mode this is not very satisfying.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a solution for this?

    Thanks in advance
    Bodo

Running your card with higher voltage but with lower (much, much lower) clocks doesn't mean it's actually eating more power.

infact the clockspeed is still changed at idle times (decreased dramatically). So practically by having a higher voltage during idletime logically results in more watts spent.

IMHO it is desirable to let the card always run at the lowest possible/stable voltage.
