sodimm ddr400 works with ddr333?

Hello, I have a Toshiba labtop that runs with 512mb ddr333, could i buy another stick of ddr400 512mb to work with my current 512mb of ddr333?
I know in desktop they will both run in ddr333 mode, but i'm not sure if laptop works the same way.
