    Hi Everyone,

My mums laptop has decided to give up the ghost - I was called randomly because the laptop would "not show anything on screen". After taking a look at it, the fans come on for about 5 seconds, then turn off - no video output, however the power light stays on indefinitely. Fans do not ramp up at any point.

I took the machine apart and there was a carpet of dust blocking the fan vent, obviously the cause of the problem. So far I have tried:

    - Without RAM, with only one stick of RAM, with known working RAM
    - With and without hard drive
    - Reseating the CPU with new thermal paste

Same issue throughout. My question now is, is there any way to troubleshoot whether the issue lies with a burnt out CPU, or motherboard? Is there any way to distinguish you guys can think of?

Just trying to figure out what I need to order to fix it - the processor is an AMD socket 1 Gen 4 (Can't remember the name off hand), I don't have much experience with AMD processors so not sure how likely they are to die from long term overheating like this.

    Any advice welcome!
