I am with you I am just happy gaming either with 720p or 1080p. Also heck I play old Dos games that are 320X240.
Ever played FTL? Would make no sense to have a 4k monitor there, and I've already spent over 100hrs on it Yet I see the future still to be in 1440p rather than 4k, I believe they haven't even sold enough of those to let 4k get cheaper. And just in my humble opinion, 1080p is still the standard, even though it's fading quickly.
The problem is all these 144hrz 2k displays are such **** quality, you get resolution and just lose all picture quality. Only ones I've been impressed by are the high end stuff that cost a couple grand. Until that all comes down in price, the best monitors are still 60hrz and 1080p, plus at 120hrz you need a monitor with much lower latency, which you usually do not get on average, they normally only advertise peak.
I thought the 8xx was going to be Dx12. Is it not? If not then i'll just wait for a Dx12 card to come out.
NVIDIA will support the DX12 API on all the DX11-class GPUs it has shipped; these belong to the Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell architectural families : http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2014/03/20/directx-12/ Well then that's ok, because i thought for some reason it meant upgrades to use it at all.
They should probably skip dx12 and go for 13 with new things in there AND counter the driver overhead. That would kill mantle anyway...
I have a overclocked 560 ti (MSI TWIN FRONNZ II OC). It was playing all new gamess perfectly at max settings until a month ago when my old 1280x1024 monitor that ihad since 2006 burmed. So i was forced to buy a new monitor and i bought a 1080p one. Now while the graphics in all games are a lot better than in 1280x1024 i saw a massive perfomance hit especialy in games that are made for high end pcs like crysis 3 tomb raider bf4 metro last light tomb raider e.t.c. And with games like witcher 3 the division doom e.t.c. you know games that will have amazing graphics is time for me to upgrade. So i am going at 880 ti or 870 at fist week of release!!
I just realized i have some money saved, maybe i'll sell my 280X and get a 870GTX if it turns out to be good upgrade. We'll see soon enough.
120/144 Hz > IQ for gaming imo. If you really need the IQ, you could be better of with a cheaper 120Hz and a second 60 Hz monitor with great IQ. Use the 120Hz for just gaming. Because as you mentioned, great IQ AND a high refreshrate, will cost you an arm and a leg. For latency it's better to check in depth reviews. ASUS/iiyama were the best at the time when I bought my 27 inch 120 Hz (there's newer monitors around now). Strangely enough the latency on the 120 Hz 27 inch Samsungs were rather high.
I think it's unlikely Nvidia would announce its next series of GPU at Gamescom. They will keep quiet until a few weeks before launch. I don't remember Nvidia announcing GPUs at a gaming event when the event would guarantee them great exposure.
meh... i'm gonna wait till 900 series. I'm happy with my 2 770 lightnings under water I also use 1440p but i never use AA.... i havent had a issue with vram.... even with watchdogs.... ran as smooth as butter
Most likely you're right, but it's always good to keep track, can't wait for the reviews to see what they've built :nerd:
just like me, sold mine two 770 and bought a 7604gb waiting next gtx 870 only for play Witcher 3 and Metro Redux
