I just went and bought an EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ Total impulse buy especally as I promised to myself that I'd wait untill Pascal and Arctic Islands came out later this year. Not sure I need it really as I'm still at 1080p with G-sync so the GTX 760 was doing just fine for me. It was the Tomb Raider bundle that got me in the end. Ordered by next day deliveray so I should get it tomorrow! I'm psyched at the moment, this is my first GPU upgrade in 2 1/2 years!
Since you have 144hz monitor, it make sense to have higher FPS. 970 might just be able to push 1080p to 120+ fps on AAA games (ultra settings). I think its good upgrade, considering your current setup and will fill the gap until next upgrade perfectly.
Heh, you'll see a decent boost over your sig's 760 (if still accurate). A friend of mine recently bought a 970 himself and he is very happy with it (also uses it for rendering computing, CUDA stuff).
It arrived today! Instantly did a few Firestrike runs, here are the results: Totally stock out of the box: Unfortunately overclocking didn't go as well as I had hoped. Managed +480mhz on the memory and +80mhz on the core before encountering artifacts. Somewhat disappointing considering my GTX760 can do +550mhz on the memory and my GTX960 can do +620mhz on the memory. Overclocked results: Looks pretty good in my system I think: However I really wish they would stop putting the power connectors on the top of the card and go back to putting them on the end. I know it's easier for people with smaller cases but it doesn't look as good on the cable management side of things.
Very nice you lucky person, and you are not helping my resolve on getting a 970/980 before i see what pascal has to offer, but i will resist.
Thanks guys! After a few hours gaming I'm certainly not regretting it. Last time I bought a high end card was when I got my 7950GX2 in 2006. It's nice to be able to max out every game I own again. With regards to overclocking I've noticed it's actually boosting up to 1480mhz which I'm quite happy with. Not sure what to do with the GTX 760 now. My second PC already has a GTX960 in it and it would be overkill to put it in my LAN box, the most strenuous game I play on that is StarCraft II. First world problems, eh?
I had the same issue with my ftw+. You might possibly need more voltage. My card boosted to 1392 out of the box. Man was I irritated. I was able to achieve 1506.5/8000, but it required a custom bios and 1.281v to make the artifacts go away. i had the 7950GX2! It looked weird with the Sandwhiched PCBs and green coolers lol. it cost alot for a card back then.
Oh yes. Cost a fortune, was amazing for 3 months and was then blown out of the water by the 8800GTX. Probably the reason why I've stuck to midrange cards since then. So many happy memories though. I kept that as my main card for 4 years until I got my GTX460 1GB.
Man I can never get my case to look that clean. I installed my new card today, and I still have lots of cables showing at the bottom:
Hah, Ha, thanks. I try and rout the cables behind the motherboard tray as much as possible. The trick is to get them to go in straight lines and routing them to the nearest grommet to the back of the case. It takes a bit of time to do and you need a good supply of cable ties but it's well worth it. Practice makes perfect too; my old Q9650 PC looked like this in 2012: Now it looks like this:
Find a way to shove them into the back. The ones which are in the way for me are PSU cables as they aren't modular. But they can't be seen through my case window so whatever.
970 for ultra setting AAA games on 1080p? And to 120+ fps? you're sure? 980ti can't do that always for ultra 1080p, and for 60fps.
