Last week you have been able to read about the Radeon R9 Nano paper launch. We just received the product from AMD and I wanted to share some photos for the TBA review....

Just would love to see it done inside a small form factor case for a change, not open bench table, this way heat won't be much of a problem...

Wanted for review: AMD's Radeon R9 Nano

Although we've covered the Fiji GPU and the Radeon R9 Nano graphics card closely since it was first announced, I've just been informed that AMD has chosen not to provide TR with a product sample for review. The reasons behind this decision aren't clear to me, but whatever.

Here's the deal: we are in need of an R9 Nano card to review. If you're in the industry and somehow have access to one, please contact me at REMOVEDXXX@techreport.com. I only need to borrow it for a few days in order to have a look at it. After that, I'll return it to you intact, and the world will have a truly independent review of this intriguing little video card.

As you may be aware, consumers would likely benefit from an independent review of this product, since we suspect AMD's public performance numbers don't reflect the experience of real gamers. We'd very much like to try out our frame-time-based performance testing methods on the Nano.

I remember the 'max' standard frequency of my reference 290 which was 947 mhz. Ran around 700 mhz most of the time. Gonna happen with this one too.

Please try to alter the fan speed to see the thermal throttling vs power throttling.

I am quite curious if R9 Nano is turned into a leaf blower, how low could temperature go and how the GPU is limited by the power supply or BIOS power limitation

I'm hoping that AMD will drop the Fiji lineup pricing. No new AMD cards at the 300-599€ price range. While all Fiji cards are all priced 600€+

AMD discrete GPU market share for last quarter was down to 18% (cards delivered) vs Nvidia's ~82%..

It's a sad time to be AMD stock owner. Last close $1.77 per share (52 week range $1.61 low - $4.25 high)

Any news on the recommended retail price in UK or EU ?

It sure does look very small, looking forward to the review and where it sits with regards to performance and heat output.

Would be nice to see AMD get a good outcome with this R9 Nano , we sure do need a competitor to Nvidia as we all know the story otherwise .

Actually - I can answer that as AMD already commented on that themselves. Honestly throttling is not bad at all, even much better then I expected. My early tests show 5 to up-to 10%, however this is based on an open test-bench.

I will be moving it into a warmer closed Micro ATX chassis and will check thermal behavior versus trapped ambient heat etc. But for the specifics on that one you'll have to wait until the embargo lifts alongside all other benchmarks and tests.

to be honest in terms of "PRICE,MUSCLE and FEATURES[btw dx12 still in the works], I don't see any playable games that can make any conclusion about "new" GPU cards roaming around today. Well, for bench-marking is another reason and inversely i remember how the PC Game CRYSIS another thing.

Hilbert would you do the game benchmark/tests for Battlefield 4 instead of the total fail Battlefield Hardline. I miss the Battlefield 4 results since Hardline came out. You realise there are millions more people interested and playing Battlefield 4 than there are playing Hardline - don't think they sold many of that at all.

Other then the API overhead performance test 3DMark has nothing to offer DX12 testing wise.

I started using Ashes ever since last week and all pending GPU reviews published starting next week will include it, However it's a fairly poor benchmark designed to target and demo just one very specific DX12 feature. None the less due to the buzz it created, I'll include it, yes.
