I say tee I as in Ti the elemental chart ID of titanium.

Wasn't Ti Titan though in the old days? I remember GeForce 4200, GeForce 4400 Ti, 4600 Ti etc.

I always thought it was titan, GeForce 4600 Titan, godamn.. sick gpu bros.

 

I never heard of the old GPU's called titans.

 

That was what i used to remember them as back in the day.

 

Before 780ti sli, my last ti were 2 4600ti in 2 systems long ago

 

Question for you guys.

What would be the best bios to use with a Zotac 980ti reference? I plan on flashing it once I get it on water to mess with the overclock potential and was wondering if there was an ideal bios to use.. or should I just modify the stock bios?

 

You can try modded bios, but be damn sure what you are flashing, you would probably wanna try a reference bios, I suggest modding your own bios. And have a backup igp or gpu if bios flash goes wrong. A bad flash is easily fixed as long as you have a backup gpu or igp handy.

 

I used a modded EVGA one from Overclock.net (posted link a few pages back) which puts out 1.28 voltage and has allowed me to run 1522mhz Core & mem at 8000mhz stable. I'd try and find what your cards limits are though before flashing it as it might be fine to reach 1500mhz + without a modded bios.

Edit - This is the name of the bios 980Ti-SC-425-1281mv it's from the SC version of the EVGA 980TI but it was perfectly fine on my ref PNY Card if that's any help.

 

How can a modded BIOS stabilize higher clocks than the card is able to run using something like AB?

(Apart from pushing higher vCore)

 

I wouldn't have thought it would, i mean the only reason I've ever used a custom bios is for a bit more vCore. My 980Ti for instance wouldn't get past about 1380mhz core using just AB and voltage always stayed at 1.23v regardless. Right after the flash to allow more vCore it basically went straight to 1500's showing that the chip can run at that speed with a little more juice needed.

 

Yea that's what I was thinking it would be, just allowing more vCore

 

Power target is also adjustable modding bios, stock 109 is now 120.

 

Ah right nice, so combined with more vCore, = higher stable clocks

My 980 is stable at 1500 already, not sure how much more I could push out of her tbh, and my last GPU BIOS flash went horribly wrong and put me off trying it again

 

Most maxwell taps out at around 1500, I wouldnt flash more voltage tbh, power target yeah, if your seeing drops in clocks not related to temps.

 

Not by much, generally maxes out at 1510, and drops to around 1497, rarely but occasionally maybe another 30Mhz or so drop, but not often

Quite pleased with this card, boosts to 1405 stock everything

Never seen higher than about 75c either

 

^ Thanks for the responses guys! I'm pretty comfortable with tinkering in the bios myself, but will take a look at the settings from that EVGA bios just to see what its set at.

 

Deathchild mentioned that one can just extract the BIOS and modify it instead of reflashing a completely new one. I dont dare testing this myself but apparently it's possible.
