Hi there.Time for my biannual thread about upgrading after which I don't actually buy anything!!! I was planning on upgrading my current rig with a MD Radeon R9 280 and FX8350. I've learned that my motherboard isn't really suited for those processors so it's really thrown a spanner in the works.

The fact that I'll probably need a new mobo anyway has made me consider making the jump to intel and then buying a GPU further down the line. Or vice versa.

As far as the cpu and board go I was looking atthese which would cost about £240: Gigabyte Z97P-D3 + i5-4690K

Any suggestions? Thanks for any input.

i think gigabyte make best mobos in world, but i dunno much about their low-mid end ones.
(their bios' are very easy to navigate)
perhaps the z97 d3h would be better.
the 4690k is a great cpu.

Ok thanks. What would you do first? The platform switch or the gpu upgrade?

Platform first, then build from that... Intel z97 for sure.

I prefer ASUS, so that's my suggestion for the board.
