So last Wednesday my first HDTV I've ever owned was delivered, a Vizio 37" the next day I went to Comcast and swapped out my normal digital cable box for a HD box and bought an HDMI cable. Watching HD channels was nothing but problems. Either the TV would report no signal, or the box would switch to SD 480i, or the screen would randomly go to white static. I got fed up during the Superbowl and switched over to component cables. Not a single hiccup since. So now I need to figure out if it is the cable, the box or the TV...
There's a pretty good chance that it's the box. I work for Comcast and I wouldn't doubt for one minute that the new box may be your problem. The HDMI port on the box may be shot. Tbh, you're not going to notice any difference in picture quality from component cables to HDMI. The only real advantage is the far neater wiring. I've tried both of them in my setup and I couldn't tell any difference. Google "HDMI vs component" and you'll see that's pretty much the consensus.
