Firmware Update to Fix the Samsung SSD 840 EVO Read Performance Bug Coming on October 15th We will see fixed firmware in a few hours (theoretically)... but sometimes (_*_) happens. Meanwhile DiskFresh fixed the prob for me.

It won't work with AMD SATA controller drivers (this is written in manual). This happened for me too. Rolled back to standard MS drivers (few reboots though) and only then updated firmware. Then I've installed AMD drivers again (they have fresh ones dated 29-09-2014 on AMD site). Here is mine driver that was a cause of flashing incapability:
Success, my average reads went from 160 MB/s to 190 MB/s on HD Tach (just Sata II). No dips in the graph.
