ive dowloaded and installed the gpu2 from the website for ati (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/special/DownloadATI.html),but then when i try to open it it says my GPU is not supported. and i have the latest ati catalyst 10.1. what am i doing wrong??
I was looking at using my 5870 but looking into it make it seem that the graphics card isn't actually supported yet. You are able to use some command line switches to make it run as if you have a R700 - however it won't make full use and your PPD will be extremely low. From information on blogs they are looking at updating the client to use OpenCL instead of the older (and now unsupported by ATI) Brook+. Until they complete this update, we're stuck with a nice fast gfx card that can't do folding very fast =/ The article I read (containing the switches required): http://www.brightsideofnews.com/new...e-ati-radeon-hd-5870-is-as-slow-as-4870!.aspx
you need to make a shortcut to F@H.exe 1st and then right click and choose properties then where it says target "c:\FAH\FAH.exe" add this -forcegpu ati_r700 -verbosity 9
target is grayed out in the properties of the shortcut i made ..and just says folding@home-gpu ..what to do?
-verbosity 9 will make your FAHLog more detailed so it is easier to troubleshoot if a problem arises.
What I did was to make a shortcut from the original .exe located in the F@H folder. I choose send to -> desktop and on the desktop, I added the flags. You could delete the shortcut and make a new one.
thanks, man ..that worked ..cheers edit: now it gives me download errors and says "core is not running now" on the viewer
first shut down F@H then go to C:\Users\Your User Name Here\AppData\Roaming\Folding@home-gpu and delete the Work folder and queue.dat file restart F@H and see how it goes if all is good it should remake the work folder and queue.dat file and download FarCore_11.exe and begin working
