8GB RAM with NO PAGEFILE CLUB or TOPIC (lol)

That's a lot cached. What does the Memory\System Cache Resident Bytes performance counter look like at that time?

 

Thinking of buying 32gb, going full retard one last time for ddr3

Collecting money, will decide later if I get a 256GB SSD (probably BEST purchase) or spend on RAM for lols.

 

I still have a page file but it's placed on an PCIe x4 card with an apple 128GB SSD
and at 16GB size it manages to use some ~300MB even when gaming

 

I have no pagefile from 6 months ago and no problems, it works great and without stressing the HDD

 

People without a PC also dont have problems not using a page file.

 

Disabling the page file is only for misguided bragging rights. I ran without one... Heck I was in this "club" for awhile.

The one thing that creeps up eventually makes it not even worth it, not to mention W10 new memory management...

 

This basically. Disabling the page file is counterproductive, especially on Windows 10. Windows will not use your RAM properly if a page file is not present.

 

Been making that argument since Win 7. Even if no issues not using page file, there is zero performance benefit from it.

 

I recently dealt with this issue, and the biggest issue holding back disabling the pagefile is memory space commits from applications. I upgraded to 12GB on my system, and when running some games, like DOOM, would get low memory warnings due to committed memory. It's not necessarily being used, but being asked for.

So I reinstalled my older 6GB, so now I run 18GB, and can now have a disabled pagefile. I'm sure this has been discussed before in this thread, but I am not going to read 55 pages to find out.

people are sorely misinformed about the memory manager and problems that arise from not having one.

 

OK so what's the difference between the Pagefile and the Swapfile

 

I've been there, done that and couldn't agree more, I always ran into stability issues with it disabled, just leave your pagefile on auto and enjoy your coffee.

 

I think this topic should be changed as it was posted when windows XP was most in use 2009. If someone reads this with Windows 10, I think its a totally different ball game. OR the topic should be restarted for 10...........

 

You will need a page file. Also 8GB is not enough for Windows 10... period.

 

I have no trouble with 8 GBs.

 

Do you still get triple-channel for a 3x4GB + 3x2GB combination of RAM? It would not be worth it if you lose that.

 

Yes, the banks are independent. So I get triple channel performance on both, as long as I keep all the 2GB ones on one, and the 4GB ones on another.

Why what? There's no thrashing. Windows is set up to manage itself properly and there's no technical reason for your advice. As a matter of fact in some instances apps and games will not work without a page file. Bad advice is bad.

 

The system maps the lowest size of the three to triple channel, and any excess is then used in single-channel mode. So only 2GB of that is actually running in triple channel mode, the other 2GB is running single channel. Don't take this personally, but the biggest constraint is it is a bad idea.
