Hello! Situation is that I recently moved from 1920x1080 to 2560x1440 monitor and I'm going to upgrade graphics side next as my 6970 simply cannot cope anymore. Requirements: - either two cards in SLI or CF or a dual-GPU card - have to be future proof for atleast 2 years - max settings in games with 2x to 4x MSAA - card(s) have to be good enough to allow for mods (high res texture packs mostly) - card(s) cannot be longer than 29 centimeters - 3 GB VRAM or more Additionally, if two cards, they have to be no thicker than 4 centimeters each. The cooler(s) should be as silent as possible. Due to the space available, aftermarket coolers are pretty much out of the question. I have a budget of around 1000€ for this. I'd like suggestions for a new GFX setup from my fellow gurus = )
if you want to max out your games at 1440p with 2x-4xMSAA, you'll need something like a hd 7970 CF (or hd 7990) or gtx 780 sli. you won't get gtx 780 sli for under 1000 eur though. gtx 770 4gb sli would kinda work too, but then they're £400 over here, while a similar hd 7970 can be had a fair bit cheaper.
future proof for 2 years?, I would have to say 780 sli. 7970/50, gk104 have been out a long time already if your looking at 770 sli, its basically 680 sli with gpu boost 2.0 and 7ghz standard memory and that was released March 2012
780 SLI is a bit too much overbudget (even the cheapeast 780 I can find is 625€). It seems my only options are 7970 CF although you are right, that is kinda "old" now and 770 SLI.
gtx 770 is old too. Like said above, it's just a re-branded gtx 680 with faster vram and gpu boost 2.0 Still, hd 79xx cards are more advanced from HW point of things.
I doubt you would want to wait til october playing at that resolution, but the new amd cards could be out by then, and if competitive with the 780 and titan, they could bring down the price of gk110 or you can go with a couple of new amd cards?
If only I was so patient = ) Thanks for your help, I'll look at the different 7970s and 770s available.
