I was using an R9 290X But I was having heat issues and shutdowns so I returned the card. It was a 2nd hand card but still came with a 12 Month warranty. They had another 290X instock but they also had a GTX 970 sat there for an extra £5 so thought, meh why not. I just want to say... HOLY BALLS! This card is a beast! Why I did not just get a 970 to begin with is a mystery! First off, the temps.. THE TEMPS. I was hitting 95c+ with the 290X but the 970 is maxing out at 70C tops, and thats with the card boosting to 1417Mhz! I have the Asus Strix version of the card, and this thing has blown my mind to bits after coming from the 290X... Just.. wow! My last nVida card was a GTX 480 in SLi untill it blew up my 750W OCZ PSU!
i also just got back to green team after my r9 270x i will just say that the temp on green team is better compare to red team
Yeah i know what you mean with heat and noise from the R9 290X's i was one of the early buyers of two 290X's when they only had the leaf blower cooler versions. Biggest mistake i ever made :/ although luckly they both turned faulty (probs due to maxing 95c most of the time, even when not using crossfire) I couldnt believe i paid over £800 for this deafening blow heater i turned my PC into :/ the next kick in the nut$ was having them exchanged for two GTX970's only to find out later the 3.5gig partion was bottle necking the two combined 970 GPU's sold both of them for the price of one. The 970 is a good card by its self for the money at the time and i was so happy to have lower temps (the 2x290xs would heat my whole room up!) and my hearing back when using the 970's now using an MSI 390x which is cool and quite. i wouldn't touch another 290X (leaf blower cooler version) if it was given to me
Enjoy the 970 it is a very capable GPU my sons Pc has my old EVGA GTX970SCC and it still plays games really well at 1080p
I could have bought a second hand GTX 970 from my friend, but he wanted $350 for it so I thought to myself, duck it.
