Went from FE to Strix, because I wanted something more quieter and this is what I got

I'm not sure what ASUS accepts as silent, but it sure as hell ain't this:

Third card in a row, I'm done with ASUS cards and going to MSI. Hell, even FE 1070 from ASUS was significantly quieter than all 3 Strix cards, which is beyond pathetic. Mind you, that annoying pulsating high-pitch noise manages to escape my Define R5 without any issues. I swear, even through the noise from the street I can still hear it!

Replace thermal paste and do custom fan curve

And lose warranty in the process.

ASUS make great cards and high OC bioses but I also don't like their fans. Had the Strix 1080 and went to the MSI Gaming X 1080Ti and I'm happier. The fan sound is more "windy" and natural (and blends nicely with the rest of the chassi fans) instead of the high pitch you're talking about.

I'm sure you'll be satisfied with the TorX fans.

I rarely hear my GPU fans and that's only when gaming intense scenarios. I can hear my case fans though all the time but that a steady hum in the background.

Do you have a completely silent setup? Not sure if you're using GPU Tweak II but it has a couple of pre-set modes including a silent mode. You also might check the ROG forum. Doesn't sound like your fans won't slow down but here is one.

I'd say sell your current graphics card and get your hands on an MSI with Twin Frozr.

Is that the default fan settings? I just got one and it´s dead silent, and the max It got while gaming was 70 C.

This why i still don't believe reviewers who say "silent".

It's why i stick with Arctic Accelero Coolers, it's all i trust in terms of silence.

Well my auros 1080ti is quiet in its default fan mode but it goes over 70 degrees and boost clock goes all to hell :D Custom fan curve and its 2012 stable . If you want your card to perform to its best it wont be silent , i dont care who makes it ;)

Maybe it doesn't affect as much the lower tier card, but I can't hear my 1070 strix unless I stress it, and even under stress, it blends so well that I can't really tell it apart from my other fans.

I guess it depends on people's noise tolerance, I don't mind too much fan noises as long as it's not too high pitched, and as long as it does a good job cooling my system.

I've thought about buying an ASUS card, but every EVGA card I've owned has been perfect. Will continue buying them until they give me a reason not to.

Yah not entirely happy with my Asus card. But when I bought it no other cards were available at the time... I've been debating if I want to sell it and maybe eat $50-100 to buy an EVGA card.

It's unbelievable to me the fans on this card minimum spin speed is ~1100-1200rpm?! If you try to set anything slower they just stop or sit in this spin up, stop, spin up, stop, spin up, stop loop that is annoying as hell. And to keep the card under 70C they need to spin upwards of 2200-2500rpm which gets very noisy! This one card is louder under load then the 2 x EVGA 1080s cards it replaced. :\
