Recently my mouse has become unresponsive when in Windows. I've tried 2 and 3 other mice, same issue. When in bios/safe mode it's not a problem, however, when booting into Windows, I am able to move the mouse cursor and use the keyboard without any issue. When attempting to click on anything, nothing happens. Tried removing all usb devices from pc, no difference. Last but least I upgraded from Windows 10 to 8.1. Two days after the same issue started again. It's so random. I have to constantly reboot several times to get the mouse working again!! It's REALLY pissing me off, any suggestions?
"Last but least I upgraded from Windows 10 to 8.1." Did you mean the other way around? Or did you downgrade? Anyway, personally I found "upgrading" nothing but trouble, I had visual studio 2015+ broken beyond all repair on one upgrade, I just ignored it. Better to do a full re install and just back up whatever files. As for testing your problem, have a go booting a new windows install from a usb
That's what I did. I HATED Windows 10, buggy and forced updates with no way to disable them. I freshly installed Windows 8.1. Everything perfect, however, two days after the clicking mouse issue started again. Cursor moves no problem, however, I cannot click anything.
Only my CPU is overclocked. GPU is running at stock speeds. Can an unstable overclocked CPU REALLY stop my mouse from clicking??
I think its hardware problem. Reset CMOS, dont apply any clocks. Also try different usb port if you havent tried.
Many mice develop 'clicking' issues. What mouse do you have, find out what kind of switches were used?
I have tried many different usb ports, no difference. If it happens again I'll try resetting cmos. I tried three different mice, two wired and one wireless. Two of which are brand new, still happens...
Have you tried your boot drive on another pc, could be any number of things but most likely some crap running in the background causing lag, or maybe memory timing issues, perhaps try an earlier bios.
Hmmmm. Unfortunately I do not have a spare pc to boot from to test. Even after fully formatting, wiping and reinstalling Windows I'm getting the same issue... I have a feeling it's my motherboard or cpu as they are the oldest components in my pc, both being around 7 or 8 years old. It may be failing due to age... Newest components are the GPU, SSD Drive, Ram,Sound Card & PSU. The other parts are rather old.
Weird problems can be caused by weird things. Look for things that are not at default. Once you find the problem you can work toward getting the system tweaked again.
Agreed Muff. Funny thing it happened again! I just left the pc for 15 minutes or so and when I came back I was unable to click on anything. Keyboard working fine. Mouse cursor moving fine but unable to click... However, a little messing about with ''alt plus delete'' then it started to respond andclick again. WTF?? It's like the mouse goes to sleep/standby/unresponsive. Really a strange and annoying issue.
Hmm, perhaps USB power saving is the culprit. It might be a duff USB driver screwing up the power saving. Station Drivers might have a better driver. (quite a 'might'y post )
Any 3rd party software installed that might be causing it? Does your mouse have drivers? My Razer has it's own software, checked if there's anything on the manufactures site?
That's what I recon. I've had dodgy USB ports previously and it caused pc to hard crash/freeze when booting up... Yes, my mouse does have drivers. I'm using the Logitech G900. This is strange, I just found a simple fix. Once Windows has been booted, press ''alt plus delete'' and then simply click the back button then it's all back to normal. That is the only way to get the mouse working and clicking.
I would try it without software.. Doesn't G900 have onboard memory? I'd get the settings you like and uninstall the software.
Whenever I get pc issues, they are the strangest and most annoying. Still trying to figure out if it's a hardware or software related problem.
I tried another mouse in other usb port, still happens... Shortly when I next $hut down my pc I'll try another wired mouse and see if the issue persists...
Do you have a spare drive to test win 10 on to see if it does it by itself? Surely there could be some kind of software/driver conflict.
