Good evening all, long time no post! Recently decided to go for Intel again for my new build, which is found to your left. First of all. I'm suffering from a weird fetish of building my system's in old server cases. I geuss it's the roomyness... That being said. I have a few old PSU's laying around that originate from those cases that make me wonder. Is it possible/safe to power my system with a 560W E-ATX PSU? Model: LiteOn PS-5551-1F Quad 12V rail with each 14A No PCI-E cable.... (Hence the question) I'm not using any optical drive whatsoever, nor any HDD. Just a single SSD. I do overclock, but hardly to insane heights.
IF you want to risk damage to new components....go for it. I'd order replacements before pressing the power button though.
While that's true, the particular unit in question doesn't have the necessary power output to handle the components in question. Given it's age, it's more likely to fail as a result of being overloaded.
Of course, I'm not saying he should use it (nor would he be able to given the lack of PCI-E cabling). I'm just saying it's unlikely to be a bomb.
Figured as much! Thanks for the replies guy's, eventhough i kinda expected the outcome. I was rather running out of funds after ordering the graphics card which is a hella lot... But i think i'd be able to squeeze out some more for a decent PSU since i sure as hell want everything going well Leaning towards the SeaSonic G series 650watts after checking viable options. Any good?
I assume you mean the SSR-650RM? It's a solid performing unit. But for a few bucks more I'd go with an EVGA SuperNova 750W. It's easily the top performer in its price bracket.
It would be like buying an Audi RS 7 Sportback, then going hey, I've got some 20 year old half worn tyres in the shed, I'll just use those. Then you go driving down the Autobahn at 250 km/h... you're just asking for trouble!
