using nvidia with amd ok? -
07-05-2012, 11:34
i have a Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2ghz black edition cpu and an asus crosshair IV formula mother board (16gb ram 1333/1025watt psu) im looking to upgrade my graphics card from a 5750 and i was looking at either the power color 7950 or the gtx 670, i found a power color 7950 at $399 (australian) and a gtx Inno3d at $422 (on sale)
Few questions
1. is the gtx worth the $23 (its usually $53)
2. will putting a nvidia disrupt the harmony/system in anyway being it amd (ive heard radeons in intel set ups is ok but not the other way around)
3. is inno3d a good brand or a dodgy one
(i just want the best bang for my buck for the new up coming games that are arriving eg gran theft auto, resident evil 6, f1 2012...
i will be playing these games on a 46 inch plasma so at 1900x1200 or whatever it is
Please help i want this card ASAP
Thanks!!

There's nothing wrong with using Nvidia cards on AMD CPU's unless you SLI two or more high end cards, AMD's current lineups aren't powerful enough.

I would get the 670, it trades blows with the 7970 for the most part:

Edit- ^lol that's not a $23 difference..

670 is on par with a 7970,yet the OP is only paying an extra $23 more than a 7950.
Not to mention you're comparing a Powercolour which is about the cheapest ATI card on the market, to a middle of the road priced Gigabyte....

im not going to get the one that $23 difference if its cheap and dodgy cause its going to cause me problems right? i was quoting the next one up thats available for me which is the gigabyte one
i could probably get a HIS, gigabyte or the sapphire for the 7950 (yes i know they're better than the power color...)

Oh I thought you were someone different lol, not the OP /facepalm...
You can either pay more $$ for more card than you need, or less $$ for a card that will do the job....that's how I look at it..
What games do you play?

Inno3D is a normal brand. But is it a reference 670 or an iChill version? Are there any other non-reference models cheaper than Gigabyte? 489$ sounds too high.

yeah thats what the inno usually is but its $30 off that price at this other shop around the corner from it (sorry didnt mention that but thats why i need to know i can use it with my set up and its worth the money while the sale is on)
benchmarks tell me its better but just wanna know compatability and that (if i was running multiple monitors or running higher res than 1900x1200 maybe id look more at the 7950/im probably wrong saying that lol)

There are no compatibility issues using Nvidia GPU with AMD CPU. Or Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU. Or AMD GPU and Intel CPU. Or AMD GPU and AMD CPU.
According to TPU review, GTX 670 is still faster at 5760x1080 res http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/N...GTX_670/1.html

oh another thing, i know this card runs fast and smooth and can do fps you cant see but what about the few hundred shaders that it has less than the 7950? does that mean less eye candy when looking at the game?

Can't compare it like that. Different architectures.
You'll have all the same ingame eye candy and the extras that are driver oriented.

If you're gonna get GTX 670 then get a custom version, stock design is cheaply made.
-poor fan, loud and makes grinding noises (its using fan mounting clip)
-vrm, ram area is hot (design flaw).
