Fellow gurus, as the title says, I'm looking for a laptop which is:

    - 14'' or smaller
    - Has a 1600X900 Screen
    - 4Gb Or More Ram
    - Core i7 Processor
    - 512Mb Or Higher Dedicated Graphics Card
    - 8 hours Or More Guaranteed Battery Life

The ONLY brand I've found is the Lenovo ThinkPad T420.

    It has the following specification:

Intel Core i7-2620M 2.7 GHz vPro Processor - 3.4GHz Max Turbo Boost
    4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB 7200RPM SATA HD (A 256Gb SSD Card is an option should I want an SSD)
    DVD RW/CD RW Writer
    1GB NVIDIA N12P-NS1 Dedicated Graphics
14.1" Widescreen LED backlight 1600x900 LED Screen
    Integrated 2MP Camera
    Fingerprint Reader
9 Cell Genuine Extended Battery (Approx 7-9 hours)
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

The above laptop is the ONLY one I've found that's 14'' & has the specification I need.

Are there ANY other laptops that are similar with regards to specification? It must be NO BIGGER than 14'' as it needs to be portable.

Budget is not an option, I'm willing to pay upto $2500. The main use of the laptop is light gaming, portability, web browsing.

I'd prefer an i7 cpu since it's futureproof.

I'm open to different brands. Any ideas would be most helpful.

Thanks gurus & looking forward to any advice you are able to give.

    Asus makes a 14" gaming laptop, G46VW with i7 3630QM and GTX 660M.

I'm not sure 8 hrs of battery life is possible on a gaming laptop.

Of course not, even 2 hours is difficult to achieve. But that's what hybrid graphics are made for, to minimize power consumption when using 2D screens.

Thanks for the reply guys, you all seem to be confused! I'm not looking for a gaming laptop at all.

In fact, I'm looking more for a business type of laptop being powerful, portable & having excellent battery life.

There are several laptops having 8-10 hours of battery life only when paying extra for an extended battery.

Example, the above lenovo laptop I mentioned originally comes with a 6 cell battery. However, there is an option to opt for the better 9 cell battery. It's slightly bigger & heavier but gives an extra 2 or so hours battery life.

Before I go out & buy this Lenovo laptop, is there ANYTHING else to consider, even if it's more expensive?

Ps. It MUST have a 1600X900 screen, i7 Processor & a DEDICATED graphics card, even if it's a $hitty card. I will use it for the odd games such as Unreal Tournament 1999, Quake 3, Max Payne 2, etc...

I don't need a GTX 660 to play older games. 14'' or smaller is a MUST, 15.6'' is not portable & it's battery won't be as good as a 14'' laptop.

Thanks fellow gurus for any more laptops you may find.

Bump. Come on guys, over 500 views & VERY few suggestions?

Apart from the Lenovo T420, what else is there as an alternative, being near identical with regards to the above specification?

Remember, it's NOT for gaming, just for general use, web browsing, watching movies, etc.

It MUST have 1600X900 resolution & a dedicated graphics card, even if it's a $hitty one. I will use the laptop for the odd blu-ray/HD movie playback & some older games. I don't want intel GMA shared graphics!

    Thanks once again gurus...

Looks like I found the perfect laptop, will purchase one next week!

Let me know what you gurus think. Here are the specs:

    Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook
    14'' 1600x900 Display
3rd Generation Intel Core Processor i7-3517U 1.9GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3GHz
    Nvidia GeForce GT 630M 1GB DDR3 Gpu
    8GB DDR3 1600MHz Ram
    500Gb Hard Drive
    8-Cell Li-Polymer Battery (upto 12 hours)

The above will cost me $975 (£628) brand new, should I go for it?

    Thanks gurus...

It's quite OK for 3-4 years old games.

I had a xps 17, that was pretty quality (crap screen, there was an option for a better one, didn't have it), I assume the 14 is still reasonably good.

Many thanks for the replies gurus...

I finally got my new laptop several days back. Happened to find it advertised in a local site.

EVERYDAY I was checking specifically for the Lenovo Thinkpad T420 or T430.

It cost me $1185 but was top of the range model apart from the ram & SSD drive.

    Specifications:

    Intel Core i7-3520M 2.9 GHz
    4Gb DDR3 1600 Ram
1Gb NVIDIA NVS 5400M Dedicated Graphics With Optimus Technology
    14.0 inch 16:9, 1600x900 Resolution Screen
Hitachi 500GB 7200 rpm 32 MByte Cache HDD
Intel Panther Point PCH High Definition Sound Card
    1 Fingerprint Reader
Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection, Intel Centrino Advanced
    Bluetooth 4.0
    Optiarc DVD RW Drive
    94 Wh Lithium-Ion 9 Cell Battery
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit
    720p Webcam

I only WISH it came with an SSD drive & an extra 4GB ram.

However, I can add the extra ram later on, the SSD isn't that important since the laptop is used for web surfing over 90% of the time...

Realistically, I get around 7 hours out of the battery with the brightness set to 4/15 & maximum battery power saving mode activated, not bad in my books...

Has the dedicated card helped you, performance-wise?

I was searching for more-or-less the same thing and ordered the Dell XPS 14. Haven't received it yet though.

Same thing bro, I took a look at the Dell XPX 14 but went for the Lenovo in the end...

What do you mean by the dedicated card helping me performance-wise? Are you referring to gaming performance?

Apart from playing Quake 3 Arena & Unreal Tournament 1999 GOTYE I've not tried any demanding titles...

Anything, more or less. I know the 630 that comes with the Dell isn't good for any huge margins to be gained, sometimes it's even just the same performance as the HD 4000.
As it has to be "fed" separately I was curious of the outcome, the gains and benefits it provides.

I've got plenty of games, both new & old.

What games do you want me to test? Resolution & settings to the max?

I don't mind taking a few screenshots with Fraps & posting them giving you some idea of what framerate your likely to get.

Also, do you want me to test using the shared HD4000 gpu or the dedicated Nvidia NVS 5400M 1Gb card?
