I have been googling for the past 15 minutes, and all threads around the web eventually degrades to bashing on the Metro UI Assuming the UI is taken out of the equation, what are the benefits of 8.1? i mean at a lower level, like there was this thing about cpu scheduling being better, what other advances come with it? any link to a site/thread stating the list of improvements please???
Its better in any way and no one forces you to use Metro UI, i dont use it at all, always in Desktop Mode. Read also here http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=384419
Every way imaginable. Kernel improvements, performance improvements, better out of the box driver support, better multi monitor support, better SSD support. Can go on for ages. Explorer and task manager are also much better in 8/8.1. Like it or hate it, but Metro can easily be ignored. If you really really hate it you can just buy a cheap app like Start8 or use Classic Shell.
It's just the new UI that is bothering people. Many of the people who love 8 use it with start8 anyway so I'm not surprised that they like it lol. Anyways, 8.2 or 9 should make all of this unnecessary and we can take Windows for granted again
another good thing is you dont have to deal with the aero disabled thing when running aero incompatible apps. my directv stre.am.ing app works like crap in windows 7 due having to disable aero and my browsers run like crap because aero is disabled. windows 8 this problem isnt there. making everything run correctly. I like the UI. I can have it colored to holidays or my moods. performance is better. encoding is faster, along with decompressing of files. I swear that google chrome caching is faster in windows 8.
I'm still on 7 but the Task Manager in 8/8.1 is great. Plus if DX11.2 really takes off it will have better performance than 7.
There's options to make "Metro" go straight to the "Apps view".....and even return to the desktop when a "metro app" is closed. Most of us don't consider a security risk to be an advantage....
you got to be careful with sky drive because it saves all your browsing and OS activity!! And we all know how trust worthy all the tech giants are, not to mention big brother snooping in.
it does? i thought its good to sync my file and browsing fav and history between my pc and my lumia phone... also it saves my documents and pictures.
And gives MS access to your computer....as well as anyone that decides to hack the Skydrive servers....or anyone that can successfully imitate the Skydrive servers....
Out of the box, 8.1 is an annoying, disorienting OS (for those fresh from 7 or other OS's). Once you configure it to behave and work they way you want, its pretty good. Better than 7 in some aspects, but cant say its dramatically so in any given way.
True, but this thread isn't about Android. ChromeOS does the same thing as well....but this thread isn't about ChromeOS either. I only posted what's relevant to this thread.
I removed skydive and all other metro apps from my .iso with winreducer 8.1. This combined with startisback for the win 7 start menu and you get the best of both worlds, overall faster smarter OS and looks and behaves how im used to (eg like win7) Id defo recommend anyone upgrade to Win 8
