How do they make money off of this, literally only 10 bucks more.

That is some value performance increase.

Don't know about it being just $10 more - a new post on that OC forum thread:

Well, the 5.1GHz is $399 which is about $90-100 more than you'd pay to play the silicon lottery (Microcenter prices excluded). But still, how am I just finding out about this site?!?!

    -
But still - Id probably pay the extra for knowing 100% it was a good clocker

I think that's a cool idea for a website and in general.

This seems attractive, hope they add X99 chips.

Its also great that they post and list all the information that they used to overclock it.

I noticed some web traffic from here, so just stopping by to say hello!

I plan to have some 5820Ks up next month, but the 5960X is pretty expensive to get a bunch to bin.

I started this because I wished something like it was available when building my computer. I would love any feedback from you guys on where you think I could improve.

    Obligatory pile of CPUs:

Will you be doing this with AMD CPUs ?

I would love to do AMD processors as well, but it all depends on demand. I have to be able to at least break even. Since AMD processors are on the cheaper side, I don't know if there would be as many people willing to pay a premium for them.

How long have you been doing this?

I think it's a great idea, surprised no-one else has done this yet, manufacturers included

Definitely will be checking your site out first when I finally make the Intel move

EDIT - What do you do with the crap chips? Must take a good few chips before you find a decent OCer

    Coming up on 2 months.

I was surprised nobody was doing it either, but then we get to your next point, which is probably the reason why. I take a loss on the poor chips. While it seems great to sell chips at a premium markup, you also have chips that get sold at a loss.

Yea that makes sense, do you think you can keep it up?

That sort of site would be invaluable to us, but if you're taking a loss on a big % of chips, how long can you keep doing it ?

That is a very risky business binning like that, none the less if I shift into the position of an overclocking consumer I'd find the idea of a guaranteed good overclockable product intriguing.

Wish you had 5820K or 5960X on there, it's the most appealing chip as far as I am concerned.

BTW if you have a 5.1+ GHz 4790K available again, drop me a PM, if you are willing to ship to Europe I'll purchase one of you and write a snippet on it to be posted here on Guru3D.com

As it stands now I'm not losing money, so I'll be here for the rest of Haswell's lifespan, and probably Haswell-E. But Broadwell and beyond is uncertain. Who knows how well 14nm will overclock?

Good news, well from me a big thanks - we needed something like this and I`ll happily buy a chip once I'm sorted for moving across

That was the only 5.1 I have come across so far, but I'll let you know. :)

Where do you sell the "crap" chips ? Ebay ?

Are they actually crap or do they just not overclock well ?

I've had a couple 4790Ks that could barely manage 4.5GHz.

Yep, if there was a 5820k that was binned I would of picked it up at 30-75$ premium depending on the settings when I built this setup.

It's definitely in the books- There's lots of variety with Haswell-e overclocks.

Interesting, I think my 965 is a weak overclocker like that.
