Ram should work as the onchip SPD will tell the Motherboard what clock speed its spec'ed at. I'm using old ram myself until I can buy higher density and faster ram.

if you are worried about performance loss, don't
i have 1866 ram, i have tested it at 1866,1600,1333mhz

if you adjust timings properly, there's no performance loss

    1866 at CL9 is the same as 1600 CL8 and 1333 CL7
