list of new features and improvements grate another 750 + meg of updates my pay as you go ISP must love me :/ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3000850
http://www.winbeta.org/news/microsoft-has-quietly-released-windows-81-update-3-november-update Here's what's new: - Refreshed language packs - Defence-in-depth security and Schannel hardening - Support for newer hardware (boot order allowance, SD card improvements, USB debugging) - Improved Web Services for Devices (WSD) printer support during network switches - Performance and reliability improvements in clustered virtual machine mission-critical environments - Improved manageability - Additional hardware support (devices that have third-party disk encryption software enabled can now be upgraded to Windows 8.1 more easily)
There's actually considerably more improvements than that, including a large number of fixes and other minor changes. The reason why they aren't all mentioned is because people don't want to look through pages of lists, they want something that is quantifiable. There is a much larger list of things that have been fixed, but even then it's not as 'complete' as it should be. If people ask 'Do I need it?', the short answer is yes.
Yep 100% needed It might be placebo but after the update my system seems quite a but "snappier" than normal. Loading up Windows from cold boot and icons load instantly on the taskbar whereas before they would load half of the icons and then the second half. Now its totally instant.
bandwidth caps need to go away along with throttling ,etc if cloud gaming or cloud anything is to really take off. but then again i bet it wontuke2: Thank god when i switch from dsl to cable there was no monthly bandwidth cap. If i was i we would be over the limit in week seeing I use IPTV and netflix streaming alot
Anyone else having difficulty installing this? Whether via Windows Update or the standalone installer, about 7% through the update process after restart I'm told the update was unable to be applied and reverts. Win 8.1 64 bit.
Just a little question here, I haven't updated Win8.1 on my HTPC since that trouble with the updates that didn't let you boot your PC appeared (I didn't install them). Can I just install everything right now on my Win8.1 setup, or do I have to double check to not install the problematic patches?
Never was quite able to figure out what the issue was. System was clean, ran sfc and used dism.exe, all was well. I had been wanting to clean up my machine for a while now though so this gave me a good enough excuse to do a Reinstall. After getting everything back up to date this particular update installed just fine. So whatever it was it was on my end, I'm just not sure what.
Yeah this failed to install for me also Both via Windows update, and offline manually. Win 8.1 x64 Core.
my windows update does that a lot .. seems like there is no activity for ages but I just leave it to get on with which it does in the end might be to do with my anti virus software ... not sure really as long as it it updates im happy.
Gave up in the end, after about 6 failed attempts of various means. I'm wondering if StartIsBack is causing it to fail, I see the Dev has stated its causing issues with the software libraries and hes working on a fix. Would this cause the update to fail though I wonder ?
