I am in need of help. I have just upgraded my motherboard, CPU and memory of my system to the following spec:

MotherBoard: ABit KG7 686B
Chipset: Via 686B
CPU: AMD Athlon 1.4Ghz
Memory: 4 x 256Mb DDR DIMM's

I have performed a clean format and reinstall of Win98 on my HDD. On
attempting to setup my 3DFX Voodoo 4500 AGP, my system detects and installs the drivers for it, but not correctly. I can see in device manager that the Voodoo board has been detected and has problems with the drivers, i.e. I have the little yellow exclamation mark on the Voodoo 4500 entry in device manager, and I can only manage to get it running in bog-standard VGA 640x480). I have used the latest drivers for both the motherboard and the Voodoo 4500, which I downloaded from the relevant websites, but this did not help. I have performed an analysis of my system using SiSoft Sandra diagnostic tool, and it informs me that my Voodoo board does not support "PCI Bus Mastering" which seems to be enabled on my system. I know there is nothing wrong with my Voodoo card, as it was perfect in my old system. I have also tried adjusting AGP settings in the BIOS, such as AGP Aperture Size, but without success. This lead me to flash my motherboard BIOS to the very latest level, release date 10th Sep 2001, still with no success.

Any help at all would be great.

RAM is pretty cheap these days, so I thought.... What the heck! Anyway, in answer to your question, I was trying to set up my system with Win98, but failed to get the Voodoo drivers installed correctly. So... I solved my problem by installing Win 2000 Professional Edition and my Voodoo 4500 AGP installed like a dream. I now have a completely functional system. The only game that I could not run under Win2K that ran under Win98 was Tomb Raider: TLR... I suppose I can live without Lara for a while (

if I am not mistaken..
I belive max ram for win98/me is 768mb ?
but I doubt that was your prob

win2k is nice

anyway..hmm

yeah

bye
11 years after I had the same problem I Solved it. Just installed this: Unofficial Windows 98 Second Edition Service Pack 3.9 + directx9c + amigamerlin 2.9 drivers Regards
for his first post ever, he raises an 11 year old thread and posts a link to a win98 service pack that is not even at microsoft. I smell a scam, attempted hack or IP harvesting operation
The link may or may not have been ok but there is defo such a thing as the unoffical sp for win98, Ive used it
