Looks like they're also going to include GPU WU's in the QRB aswell so what you may loose in SMP Bigadv points you'll prolly pick up with GPU WU's instead.... Well atleast hopefully from Vijay Pandes blog Also on an positive note the new Catalyst 11.7 preview drivers gave a positive boost to F@H gpu folding well atleast for me it did ppd went from ~5500 to 6440  and slightly lower power usage to boot aswell according to GPUz my VDDC current OCP% went from 25.9% to 17.2%:nerd:
with a statement like that one would tend to think you were only in it for the points lesoo7 don't forget that Big WU's will still get bonus points just not as much as before and they're also going to bring GPU WU's into the QRB aswell so what you loose from one you'll gain in another
If you break down the cost of 980X and the electric you use for previous points alloted, then you add the new points you get you need to at least double your electric use to make up the short fall with GPU usage. Electric cost and points are what made me buy 980X it WAS cost effective, now my investment is Halved it is wasted!! I won't be buying a 8 core intel for limited time bonus points put it that way!!
Sorry for the delay in responding, the answer is yes I will still be folding. I have to service my comp plug in my second 480 and downclock the 980 and will be back!!
Are you running Linux to use the new wus designed for 12 core/thread. p6903/6904? From what I heard they are have a much higher ppd/watt but had a rather long tpf 3-4 days to finish one
That how I felt at first but now I practically can live without windows, it's simple and straightforward once you get use to it. Or you can use a vmware if you still need windows. Also it a big improvement in tpf for my 2600k.
yer ive been trying to get uses to it in VM but just not had the time too what tpf are you seeing on the 6904/3
I'm not running these new wu as it not design for 4/8 cpu and doing so would only slow down the entire project and create a shortage for those who have a 12 core CPU. But a 2600k would get tpf around 90mins a frame, lol... 5 day completion time. Although I heard a 970 would get around 40 min per frame but these projects put gives generous points the p6903 anyways .
Wasted no it's still capable of returning the WU in the same period of time is it not the points really are just an meaningless reward given to you to encourage you it's not like you win anything or can use them for anything so points rewards are pointless.... It's all about doing the science and helping find cures for diseases points are just a happy side effect
