Looking at the benchmarks in the reviews that list minimum framerates (these are more important IMO than average ones) the GTX 680 seems to manage higher ones overall than the HD 7970 even if the average is lower for a few games. Ideally, a game's minimum and average framerates should be as close to each other as possible and not lower than 30 fps to ensure smooth gameplay; dips to 20 fps or even complete stalls of 0 fps as I sometimes see in these benchmarks with SLI/CFX would ruin the gameplay experience for me even if they're infrequent.

I already have the modded v301.10 drivers installed for my GTX 580 so do I still need to uninstall them so I can reinstall the certified ones after fitting the GTX 680? Or can I leave them installed and just do a clean install of the same drivers again once the card is fitted and Windows has booted up?

I bought mine from Aria, simply because they were the first site I came across that had them up for ordering at 1pm yesterday. My POV GTX 680 card was £420. Their prices are pretty much the same as others too, +/- £10.

Dabs.com had some listed at £410 when I checked last night but they're not in stock yet. However, you can use the code SPRING25 to get £25 off orders of £399.99 or more so that would bring the cost of a GTX 680 down to £385 if you can wait.

Seems Arctic has pulled the Accelero Xtreme III from the site.

Perhaps they gonna make a special one for the 680 alone. Which wont surprise me since there are Vendors like...was it Sparkle and another who also had Arctic Cooled versions out of the Box.

Yes you will have to uninstall the driver, because it will still be on the hardware ID of the old card.

Cheap or not, i want a 4GB version anyways aswell as a custom cooler.

Zotac also made a GTX580 AMP2 with Zalman Cooler which seemed nice. Will see who does what.

If Arctic comes with a suitable cooler it's an easy choice ofcourse.

But after quite some cards and removing the cooler myself i feel more for getting one that alrdy has one fitted.

    Better for waranty aswell.

Ah OK, thanks. I'll uninstall then and shutdown before I remove my GTX 580.

    How lame is that!

Alternate Holland asks €499 for an EVGA GTX 680 while Alternate Belgium asks €529 for the exact same card!!! It's the same company, wth?

No word on an AMD price drop yet, although that could be due to being nothing in it between them when both cards are overclocked, and the 7970 having an extra 1gb Ram, would be nice though.

I knew the new kepler cards would compete but I did not see them blowing the 7970 out of the water in most games. That's pretty disappointing considering I paid $550 for my 7970 when it came out. I mean sure the 7970 has a TON of raw power and overclocks like a champ, but unfortunately it's performance isn't where it should be. Looking back, I probably should've hung on to my old 5870 a little longer. I didn't really NEED to upgrade, but I wanted to :p. The RC11 drivers seem to be the best still, after three months...

Kudos to nvidia for what it accomplished while undercutting the price of AMD's offering. I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon just yet though, like some other people, who are already selling their 7970's to get a GTX680. First off, the 680 is a mid end card...it'll be cheaper pretty soon. I'll give AMD the benefit of the doubt and give them time to fix up the drivers. I'm definitely gonna keep watch for the inevitable GTX780 cards.

The stock GTX 680 performs better than the stock HD 7970 at 1920x1200 (my gaming resolution) but the gap is less at 2560x1600 and lower still with multi-display gaming. Also, I've read benchmarks that show that when the HD 7970 is overclocked it can match an overclocked GTX 680. Your card also has more video memory and more memory bandwidth which may come in useful over the coming months. I shouldn't feel bad about your purchase; it's still a powerful card.

For those of you who are interested in Eyefinity/Surround benchmarks between the GTX680 and HD7970 - http://www.overclockers club.com/reviews/nvidia_gtx680/12.htm

I had expected the HD7970 to take the cake in triple display gaming with its higher bus size.

Edit - remove the space the url
