such as 1920x1200.. A 45" LCD TV with 1388x720 looks like crap when viewing 5 ft away.... you'd have to stand like 15+ft to even think it looks okay...

There are, Westinghouse has LCD HD Tvs that are 1920x1080 on pc. I know there also a Sharp one the last time I look at sharp LCD TVs.

I'm confused? Nearly every LCD TV over 42" is 1080p unless you live in Kazakhstan?

do you have a 1080p TV but can't get it to run 1080p over VGA?

most TV's will only run 1080p over dvi - hdmi

    He Said 45...

Still, the reason they don't make TVs at such high resolutions is because people are used to low res content from their TVs. Nobody produces 1080p content, until recently you couldn't even record at 1080p.
720p or 1080i are both good enough for TVs up to about 37-40".
Above that, most TVs `are` 1080p, but even if you have a good 720p source image, it'll still look grainy/pixelated unless you are sufficiently far away from it.
