dam doesn't time fly it been 4 year since i started folding all that time ago, how time have changed still folding strong on the first bit of hardware that i started with  the GTX260 still kicking out 8k ppd

I stopped folding on my GTX260 as soon as I got my HD7970, even though it was at a time when AMD GPU folding was poor (up till Core16).

The cost of the amount of electricity the card draws can be put towards a new card that is faster and saves power, netting the same cost in the end.

But on the other hand, if you have multiple systems that you can fold on, you might think of folding on the new card and the GTX260 too so it ends up a losing battle anyways :p

Needless to say, with new cards cranking 100k+ PPD...

    FOLD FOLD FOLD

Hows the electric bills when folding vs not folding?

I noticed a huge increase when I started bitcoin mining

Glad to have you on board our team :D

I remember when I first started, I would be excited about getting 2490 PPD (that was the amount of points you needed to get the 20th position in the top producers). The top producer than was 89Mustang with 15161 PPD. Fast forward to now and you need at least 15382 PPD to get within the top 20 and the top producer is you with 292733 PPD! That's pretty impressive over the time period of 4 years :)

It's been about 5 years since I started folding... Unfortunately, I can't fold full time. I can only fold for a couple days at a time as the difference in my power bill between folding and not...is noticeable.

Not sure I'd still be folding at all if it wasn't for all your help...

Thanks, I do understand that and am happy that every bit counts :) Keep on folding whenever possible, mate

    Thats lots of folded proteins.
Thank you very much for very much for keeping Guru3D folding team strong and active!

After I saw how powerful GPUs ppds, I grounded my CPU from folding for now.

I am looking for a high end GPU to start folding again. Can't decide between:
    1) 7970/280x crossfire
    2) single R9 290
    3) single Nvidia 780

I finally gonna make my mind as 290's custom coolers hit the market.

If there already good value cards for folding rather than 290, let me know!

and do we know the ppd of a 290/290x does the core have to be optimized yet or is it all openCL

780Ti does actually pulling some great PPD. I keep that card in my list :)

I'm currently doing some folding on the rigs I use for FAH...and by folding I mean actually setting up gromacs to do folding of proteins for my own research! :)
Wish I could make use of FAH's network to do my research's folding for me :p

Wish you best luck with your researches!

Hopefully with time you'll be able to use world wide computers to compute your work.

Thanks! Doing research-related folding is quite new to me, so I need all the luck I can get :nerd:

FahCore_17 is already optimized for R9 Series GPU. However, I have read that the ability of the card is being limited by the high temperatures (frequencies fall down, etc). Thus, you would have to wait until third-party cooling systems or liquid cooling systems to really get an accurate idea about its folding potential.
