Dude the point is a card that comes out after another card is logically going to be a better card, if it is aimed at the same area of the market and isn't effed up by miraculous errors.

Having seen the specs on the kyro 3 I can only imagine it will be great competition for the geforce 3, when it comes out. Yes I am suggesting it will a year or two until it arrives.
Lets hope they prove me wrong.

Well Bugsy, sorry to disappoint you, but I read some stuff about KyroIII floating the market in Q4/01 or Q1/02! Well I don't know if one could take this serious, but if it's right, then the KyroIII might be total competition to the Geforce3-Ultra and the Matrox G1000!

Now I'm not claiming my memory is any good, but if I recall correctly the release date was pushed back. Lets hope not as the kyro 3 on paper shows what must beat a geforce 3!

You serious think a massive company like STMicro is going to bring something to the market 2 years after its sheduled release date??? No company worth anything would do that let alone a huge company like ST, just last week ST finally officially confirmed that they would be producing PowerVR series 4 and 5, do you really think they'd confirm that now if they thought the card was going to be late (considering its scheduled to be released in 4-5 months they would know at this point if it will arrive on time). You really have no basis for thinking they'd be late to the market after all when have they ever been late to the market?, so all you have to go on is a feeling you have that they will be late wich with all due respect doesn't count for much. Infact my info is ST are only waiting till the end of this year or early 2002 because there waiting for TMSC's 0.13micron process (the same process that Nvidia are also waiting for to use in there next chip). If TSMC had the process now Kyro III could be here a lot ealier then the scheduled release.
Your right about that memory of yours, it was never pushed back, its scheduled for before the end of this year AFAIK.

The Kyro 3 wont even be announced until November. I didn't see a hint of a release date. Don't confuse the series of the chipset with the name of the card. Kyro 2 is series 3. series 4 & 5 are being worked on. From all the reading I've done on the kyro lines we are in for some great competition in all segments of the market.

Now if I could only pull that woo hoo wav file out of Tribes two.

This message was edited by Bugsy on 03 Jul 2001 02:57 AM

I didn't confuse the series with the name of the card, I know what I'm talking about when it comes to PowerVR (My site = http://www.powervr.org.uk). I know which series goes into each card and my info says Kyro III is just waiting for TMSC's 0.13 process before it can be released. Kyro II was anounced and 3 weeks later it was available so if the same thing happens with Kyro III a November anouncement would keep it on schedule for a 2001 release or early 2002 release. ST's president said that STG5500 (Kyro III) is scheduled to be out before the end of this year or early next year (which my info says is dependant of TMSC).
BTW I just tried to register and it said that someone else already has the username Teasy, I think that might be from the last time I registered and I forgot the password, I tried using the forgotten password system but it was unable to recognise any of my email addresses. Can you help me recover the account as I like to use the same username on every messageboard.

You should be able to recover your password either by asking for a new one, or having the old one mailed to you.
Honestly, I don't go on feeling in here I do my best to remember what I read in the news. I got confused with who was mixing up the series and the line. Hope you don't take it personal.

Well, funny, if anyone checks out the exhaustive benchmarks on Anandtech.com you'll see that in same game the KyroII beats the GF3!! Int the rest it's close on it's heels. The Kyro 3 will add hardware T&L support for like 1/2 the price of the 2nd gen GF3 card, then it's goodbye NVidia!
