I'm installing Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview (build 10166) on a new 256GB 850 Pro SSD. Using Rufis 2.2 I loaded build 10166 .iso to a 3.0 USB. I unplugged my C drive and plugged in the new SSD. The install started correctly and after entering the Product Key it asked where I wanted to install W10. It offered, "Drive 0 Unallocated, Capacity 238.5, available 238.5" I opted to fornat. Then I got: "Setup was unable to use existing partition because system volume does not contain the required space"

I tried installing Windows 8 and got the same results.

    Got tip?

    Thanks,

    Kerry

PS: I ran AS SSD Benckmark and CrystalDisk but I don't have enough posts to include the results.

Did you click New to create the primary partition first? If you did it correctly you should have two partitions on the drive. One that says system reserved and the other that says primary

    Hi nhlkoho,

Since posting I installed build 10240 iso (now named Windows 10 Pro) to a 3.0 USB using Rufus 2.2 and tried* to install it on my new Samsung 850 Pro 246 GB SSD (F) drive.

The "New" option was not highlighted.

After entering the Product Key > Next > I got the exact same message: "Setup was unable to use existing partition because system volume does not contain the required space"

Disk Management: Disk 1 basic, (F:) reads: 238.47 GB NTFS, Healthy (Active, Primary Partition) but unlike Disk 2 (E:) a HDD drive, it has no Unallocated.

I also tried installing Windows 8.0 on F: via the USB method but got the same message.

    * Before "trying" I copy-pasted a folder to F: and it worked—so apparently the drive is OK. I then formatted the F drive (so as to delete the folder) and tried installing W10.

    Thanks, Kerry
