I am looking to add a R9 280 to my existing MSI TF3 7950 since 20nm seems far away at the moment. I know CFX should be supported but does a 280 plays nice with a 7950, given that it has a boost clock whereas 7950 does not? Should I be good with overclocking 280 to my current 7950 clocks (1075/1575) to make them 1:1? I have not run CF for more than a year now (had 7950 CF originally). But I heard it has been improved a lot recently with frame pacing etc. So, should be a good experience. I am eyeing the following 280 specifically. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150705 If someone knows a better deal let me know. Thanks
They should work, yes. Clocks can be not 1:1 but then the drivers will reduce the GPU usage on the higher clock card to compensate. So yeah, run at 1:1. Frame pacing is a whole different world and I stopped using VSync in games which do not need it (Skyrim, NFS, etc..)
Could I crossfire a 7870XT with a 280x? I have a 7870XT hanging around doing nothing so... oh shi I just remembered the 7870 only has 2GB of VRAM nvm I'll pick up another 280x
Is XFX a good brand to buy these days? I have heard good reviews for R9 280 DD OC so far as they are voltage unlocked and use hynix memory. Also, heard good things about the cooler. I was initially leaning towards MSI gaming but they seem to have a problem with fans.
im going to try with a 280x and 7970 @1050mhz next week hopefully it will work out good, anyone know for sure? cuz i just bought
