I'm getting comcast again when i move at the end of the month and would rather buy a modem then rent...but i'm not 100% sure which one i should get they have a list of supported devices here: http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ Anyone have any input on which one would be best? or simply recommend due to having it yourself and not having problems?
I seem to been keen on the SB6141 (though Comcast gives it a one star which i don't quite understand...i looked up what their stars mean and that just served to confuse me more...) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...veASIN=B00AJHDZSI&linkCode=as2&tag=myde0bd-20 But not sure if that'd be overkill and i'd just need a SB6121 (which has 3 stars..?), however, if there's not a huge reason not to get the SB6141, then i'd rather get it since it's future-proofing on the speed at least. and then there's things like the Zoom 5341 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem 5341J, which seems to have great reviews on amazon, but i've never heard ofthem... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...veASIN=B0063K4NN6&linkCode=as2&tag=myde0bd-20
http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Model-D...1412731789&sr=1-2&keywords=linksys+docsis+3.0 Best one you can get
I've got the SB6121 and it works fine with comcast. http://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-Motorola-SB6121-SURFboard-DOCSIS/dp/B004XC6GJ0
Problem with that one is that its not supported by comcast, and because of that, they wont activate it. They use to, but now only activate supported modems
Comcast has never asked me what brand/model my modem's were. All they ever ask for is he MAC address. It shouldn't matter what modem you use.
I know normally if you do tell them your using a modem you bought. that they will warn you that if anything goes wrong with service or modem. that you have to trouble shoot it. because they dont provide technical support for customer bought modems. I ran a couple issue with repair people because they dont like messing with customer bought modems. but then I dont like using isp provided modem because they sometimes dont work right. onetime they gave me a used modem and the modem fell apart couple weeks later and they tried to charge me $100 saying that I damaged it. I told them, all I did was I went to move it and the bottom of the base came off. found out the screw holes where stripped. they dropped the charge after couple of months.
