Talking Attention KMart Shoppers! Q3Bench: Call Of Duty - 02-26-2004, 00:15 | posts: 101 | Location: Fort Worth, Texas

(note: even though Q3Bench has it's own board, it's long abandoned so I thought I'd make a first post in here)

Hey guys.... I haven't been around in a long time (howdy). This morning I was reminded of Q3Bench.(http://www.guru3d.com/q3bench/)

It's been so long I was thinking about letting the source code go (not that I thought anyone would care). I pretty much gave up when the only other Q3 engine game that would work with Q3Bench was RTCW. But, I just spent a few hours with the code and Call Of Duty and it works! (woot)

Q3 is a 4 year old engine, but Call Of Duty is still fairly harsh on systems at high detail levels, so I figured what the heck. A CODBench may have some value. If anything it could help someone quickly see an across the board performance breakdown to choose which graphics settings are the best.

I've changed enough of the code to get it to work, but figure I need a few days to clean everything up and learn the new/differnt call of duty graphics commands. I dont' know if anyone of you guys even gives a toot about this, but I could probably use beta testers in the next couple of days. I need to make sure that the results are very close to manual runs.

Following tradition, Q3Bench used "low", "high" and "max" runs. I need some kind of input on exactly which graphics options you guys think should be used for each of those three default levels. (THANKS for any help). And, this time around I'm sticking my name somewhere on it but giving all the credit/ownership to Guru3D.

I used the game to help make 3 new config files and massaged them into the code for a sample run. Here's it is:

OK, everyone's got it that asked. And, I haven't heard of any problems yet.

I'm going to stop giving it out as I'm close to finising the version with the custom config file options.

Thanks!

Hey Roland and Raven's Blood - I've very close to finishing the next beta with the custom config options (at least the options supported by the menu). I'll send it to you when I'm done.

Hmmmm... Very little feedback in here

I think I'm almost done now. I've spent all of my free time over the last two days studying up on CoD's config file settings/commands. Things are much different than they were in Quake3. And, I was suprised to see how many low end options are gone.

I fixed several mistakes I found and then when I started comparing CoDBench's results to manual results I saw some big problems and found several more mistakes and quirks about how CoD can changed settings after an exec.

I've got it pretty much exactly getting the same results as manual runs now.

newest run, almost perfectly matches manual timedemo runs:
