Hi guys!

I thought it might be a cool idea to open a thread about android optimizations.

So please feel free to share your tweaks / apps.

I first of all have 2 tweaks to speed up Android responses.

Quote:
Developer mode

Open Settings> About> Software Information> More.
Then tap “Build number” seven times to enable Developer options. ...
Go back to Settings menu and now you'll be able to see “Developer options” there.

#1 - In Developer options , put, Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, Animator duration scale to 1X

#2 - Download the app, super touch Speed sliding. (Its free) When installed increase the number to increase speed and press start smooth touch. For my S7 Edge it was set to 1000 default, i set it to 1520. it takes about a minute for it is applied, but the phone should be warpspeed fast after this.

Package Disabler Pro (Samsung) probably others for other phones
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...agedisablerpro

Allows you to freeze just about any app / system app without needing to root

If rooted, change the I/O scheduler to FIOPS, as it may improve your UI experience. Also change the read ahead to 512k

Tip for phones with screens that are very bright even on low settings (useful at night time). Enable adaptive brightness then move the brightness slider to the left and the screen will go even lower, make sure you don't make it too dark.

Not sure if this is on Android 5 or 6 but if you go to developer options, there maybe an option for 'Webview implementation' change this from webview to Chrome, this option is in Android 7.

Hey white

About that app, mine auto set it to 460 for 4.7" screen. what does battery saver do? Did you enable it as well?

Im also using rootbooster app. Quite handy to optimize on the fly and im already using its battery saver option, any possible conflicts?

dump those apps and modify your kernel and browse your filesystem.

most useful part of root is being able to access your host file obviously leaving guru3d white list hah.

battery savers are weak.
disable unused radios, lower your clocks, and screen brightness to what you can manage with no ui lag then just deal with it.
just freed a cpu thread and ram

memory optimizer are uninstall
freed a cpu thread and ram

Remove bloatware

here are some source tweaks
https://source.android.com/devices/t...g/low-ram.html

root booster apps arnt good either for long term modification because the kernel has default values that it can load at random times for misc reasons; for example, coming out of c6 stat or charging. this will conflict with modified boot init as well... so it comes back to the kernel for making modifications that work more reliably.

but if your still new with android then using a open source kernel app on git will give you a quick run down of some of the more popular files to modify. i like kernel adiutor for testing oc/tweak stability. chainfire also has a liveboot that will take a boot logcat. moreover, a lot of what you learn from android transitions to linux which can help if you want to build a distro for yourself.

First id like to point out that the super touch Speed sliding dev suddenly changed his policy to monthly payments. So id suggest to strongly avoid it from now on heh. lol

Now for some more tweaks.

These are tested on Nougat 7.0 s7 edge.

Enable System UI Tuner to Modify the Status Bar
Quote:
pull down the notification shade. Then, tap and hold the gear icon in the top right of the screen for a few seconds (on newer phones you’ll feel a vibration upon activation). Once you let go, the tiny cog will roll away and you’ll be taken to the Settings app and a box will appear saying, “Congrats! System UI has been added to Settings.

If that does not work (like nothing happens)

Download Activity Launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...tivitylauncher
Open up Activity Launcher and change the view mode to see “All activities.” Next, scroll all the way down to System UI. Tap on it to expand the list and see all available System UI activities. Look for the demo mode activity. Tap on that and it should open up the hidden System UI Tuner.

If sytemui crashes, the demo function has been removed. Im using a custom rom atm which doesnt have it included.

Greefiny (power saving application. this is more for older devices which do not have power saving features for apps. not needed for nougat 7.0)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...greenify&hl=en
Evie Launcher (nice simple launcher)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...shortcut&hl=en

sidesync (take control over your phone over wifi)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...desync30&hl=en

now for some root stuff. s7 edge specific

SuperStock-Kernel (best kernel out there, adds features while adding battery life)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-...1-3-5-t3453462
(must be flashed with twrp supported on nougat and marshmallow)

mod to even make it faster and more efficient
https://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-fast-t3482317
(also must be flashed with twrp , supported from android 2.0 up to 7.1).

after this the phone will be extremely fast.

Does anyone know how to get Android Pay to work on a rooted, unlocked bootloader, or custom rom?

Apparently my Pixel is one of these 3 things(which truth be told I have not done anything to it at all lol), so it's not working for me lmao.

have you tried magiks ? (enable systemless host, magiks hide, then check systemui and android pay in magics hide module and reboot)
If not, try a different kernel.

The funny thing is, I have never rooted, unlocked the bootloader, or at that matter put a custom rom on it.

Tried flashing stock back over the top?

Not sure about the Pixel, but on my S7 you can check the status of the device from settings > about device > status

If it says Custom, it's something with the ROM causing your problem and flashing stock should fix, if it says Official, it's likely the bootloader or whatever else Android Pay checks

With the Samsungs it checks a thing called KNOX, that is a one time deal eFuse, if you flash custom you trip it from 0x0 to 0x1 and it cannot be reversed, things like Android pay etc check that status

You can check it from download mode (Whatever mode you use to flash ROMs from)

I would suggest to look at custom kernels for those on root.

I am using FrancoKernel with my OnePlus3T and one really great function is app specific profiles.

You can essentially customize how much or how little resources or "mode" to use per app. So you can leave you phone in low power mode 24/7 and when you play a game, it will auto-adjust to performance mode, or whatever you wish to set.
Superbly handy.

Greenify is still great with Nougat 7.1.1.. I use it for aggressive doze and get only 1-2% battery drop overnight.

Once Xposed is available I would have several suggestions for it as well.

Thats why its optional to just remove knox. only thing that doesnt work atm is samsung pass, but thats not a big deal seeing just how much you gain with custom roms imho.

KNOX is more than just the KNOX apps though, it's a hardware eFuse you can't reverse once tripped

Affects warranty & any apps that rely on it, I use Samsung Pass a lot for logging into sites with my fingerprint, and it also kills S.Health which I use every day

Not fussed about Samsung/Android pay as my bank doesn't support them yet

And the phone is only 8 months old, so would like to keep warranty a little longer too

Usually I don't really care about KNOX and like you see more benefit with root, but with the S7 I haven't missed anything root would usually give me

I havent tripped it once. though this isnt a guarantee it wouldnt trip for you though, so i can see what you mean.

shealth works fine also btw

https://s.amsu.ng/w36Rd7DLnYiN
https://s.amsu.ng/QAklRUTzlx3N

i dont like knox at all. i can see if you have a important job you would want some documents in a secure place, but as a general user its a bit overkill.

Even when there is no choice to remove it, i choose not to install it (you can skip at the setup).

Yea I choose not to activate KNOX at setup too, it's not those KNOX apps that's the problem, it's the eFuse (0x1) which is hardware not software

I can disable KNOX apps using a package disabler without root fine, that's no problem, it doesn't affect those other apps, it's the 0x1 that does that, and you'll only trip KNOX eFuse to 0x1 by flashing something custom

IIRC KNOX gets permanently tripped even as far back as the S5?

Your KNOX is not tripped in those screenshots, it still says 0x0 so yea S.Health will work fine

It kills it with 0x1 at least with Nougat on the S7

Another Nice Tweak (does not require ROOT)

Change animation speed to any value you want. example gives 0,75

needed ADB https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho....php?t=2317790
this is the guide (pretty easy)

Tell you what has started becoming a PITA on my S7, whenever I used to connect USB to PC, it would initially ask permission on the phone, I would agree and it would never ask again, but the last few weeks it is asking me every single time I connect the phone

I've removed all traces of it from the PC/Device Manager, reset a few things in developer options relating to USB, but it continues to ask

I would suspect an update to Android having caused it, but it started doing it way after the last update

Hmm, well it's definitely not saving something, but yea I have no idea where to look next, it's thinking the PC is a different machine every time

I'm guessing it saves the phones ID on the PC rather than the other way around (Could be wrong), so maybe something is up with Windows rather than the S7

Anyone know of an icon pack that changes all icons to one single icon?

So all icons are identical, just a white circle or something that it changes them all to

Rather than having some icons not themed because the pack doesn't support those apps yet etc
