Today's update to the Oculus VR app on Samsung phones is causing heavy battery drain

Hmmm, that might explain why the phone was really warm just browsing and was the video was freezing (audio kept playing) on YouTube.

Yea I thought it might be an idea to post it here, I was playing with the Oculus stuff yesterday and I got the update but uninstalled the whole thing earlier before finding out about the drain bug, so didn't notice anything

EDIT - Actually, I did notice something, I was playing with Open Camera, and the whole phone was stuttering and freezing, I blamed the camera app and removed it, bet it was the Oculus update

Bad news all round that company and their mothership FB

I don't have any Gear VR headset yet, I used SideloadVR app to trick it into working with my cardboard (Sort of, still needed to press the screen to select stuff, so uninstalled the lot)

I got the headset with the phone, and it's great, much better than i expected.
A massive laugh watching other people use it as well.

Today i uninstalled all the VR stuff though, think ive saw everything, and I have a baby crawling around so don't get to use it now anyway.

It was taking up over 1gb storage as well..

Loving my S7 Edge so far, coming from the S4 and the improvement in performance is clear to see, only just scratched the surface so far of what this smartphone is capable of.

Normal vs Fast charge - I checked from 15% connecting to my MiniPC, and it was going to take over 6 hours

We recently pushed an Oculus Software update that has inadvertently caused some people to experience phone performance issues.

The team has issued a fix, so please open the Oculus app on your phone and follow the prompts to update your Oculus software. If you do not see a prompt, then your phone has already been updated and no further action is needed.
We apologize for the inconvenience - please reach out to Oculus Support if you have any questions or concerns.
— The Oculus Team

What's causing this ring effect?

Purposely turned levels up to enhance it, but it's visible on unedited RAW photos, looks like coffee cup rings

According to phonearena Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge receive update that adds features to ‘Always On Display’.

The update in weight is 8MB, enhances the the Always On Display of both models. Update includes the replacement of previous calendar with the newly designed ones and always on will show the music is being played on your phone’s music apps.

The clocks on the Always On Display is more customizable.

The Always On Display appears on both, the S-View cover or a Keyboard cover so now you can add your signature to the screen in any color or font you want.

This update also decreases the battery consumption 1% of whole battery life each hour.

Not sure what the N7 AOD was like, but it's still pretty lame, can add a photo now, time/calendar, don't think notifications even work with it yet

Not on the S7 Edge it isn't, the battery is one of the best things about it.

Unless you mean Samsung phones in general, then nah not the best time.

I get about 6 hours SoT with my S7 flat

Running the Nougat beta atm and getting about 5 hours SoT

Idle is good though, could quite easily hit 5 days idle IMO if I'm not using the phone
