I have a pre-order in the states here at Best Buy. You can pick up in-store rather than wait for shipping if you live close to one, fortunately I'm less than 10 minutes from one. 10am on Friday I'll be enjoying this thing (even planned a vacation day for it). I like that the Wii U version allows you to play with the Pro Controller if desired as well. I've gotten quite used to that controller with Smash Bros. Very cool.

Crashing can't be explained, but from what I've read, 20fps is the norm on Wii U with this one

Kidding (Sort of).

I already know, I just completed the plateau. Stopping there cause I have to repeat all that progress in like 3 days time.

Really awesome game so far, look forward to it with nicer graphics.

It's "on" emulator in the sense that it completely crashes when trying to start the game

The main menu works, that's it

CEMU will be the defacto way to play once it runs, and the development of this emulator is fast. I would not be surprised if the developer gets it running in the next release or two.

98/100 average score on Metacritic.

Is the game really that good? Cause that score is insane.

The sense of height when he's at the top of one of those towers...best I've "felt"? If you know what I mean.

Looks really fun, will probably get it later on.

I have a gut-wrenching dilemma (I'm sure I'm not the only one on the same boat).

1) I have a Wii U, and like many of you Wii U owners I've been wanting (and waiting) for a new Wii U-specific triple-A full-fledged Zelda game pretty much since the console's release. I waited... and waited. Then I "cracked" and finally bought my Wii U only as recently as about a year ago (February 2016). However, when I bought it my mind was set on Super Mario Maker and Mario Kart 8 instead. Anyway, long story short... I got a Wii U.

2) I am also a PC gamer, and I own a 1080p 'gaming' monitor which I love. I do everything on it. I play games on it, created levels for games on it, I make my game mods on it. I watch my movies on it. And, more importantly, I play my Wii U on it too (HDMI).

3) I'm not actually interested by the Switch itself.

BUT...

4) The Switch version of Breath of the Wild is 900p, and supposedly has better performance going for it. Now, regardless of better performance, the resolution IS, admitedly, a very important factor for me. I don't quite mind to play games like Super Mario Maker or Mario Kart 8 on my 1080p monitor from that 720p stretched to fit the screen simply because those games don't have that many visual details to 'worry about'. But Breath of the Wild is a completely different story. It's a single-player exploration-based open world game. I WILL notice the jagged edges and the blurry textures and the overall low resolution (and of course will notice if there's FPS slow downs) coming from the Wii U version. And if there's other 'subtle' differences like better shadows, better lightning, better (or more varied) sounds on the Switch version then I'll feel very bad missing those. It's a freakin' Zelda game after all.

5) Now, big problem... I live in Canada, and our dollar is about as valuable as a pile of dust. The console is $400, the game is $80. That's about $550 with taxes (15% taxes where I live). I don't even have the Pro controller with that money yet. I'd have to play it on the 'default' controller setup (not that it's too much of a problem but that Pro controller does look SO much better).

6) Objectively-speaking, it WOULD be completely insane to burn $550 dollars for basically one game, but the technical / visual / audio differences between the Wii U and the Switch versions of the game are creating a conflict inside me the likes of which I've only experienced one time in the past 25 years or so.

I have the feeling that I WOULD feel an inevitable buyers' remorse if I do go for the insane path. But I also feel that I would think exactly the same if I buy the Wii U version. On one hand, the remorse would come from the sheer amount of money wasted for one single game. And on the other hand the remorse would come from the back-thought in my mind that would keep telling me "imagine how it MIGHT have looked like on the Switch version?" as I'd be playing it on my lesser Wii U version, just because I would have wanted to save... oh... about $400 and freakin' 70 dollars? Yeah, bad reasoning huh?

I've literally never been torn apart like this to take a decision for myself in the past. The only other time something similar happened dates back to the original XBOX days because of Halo 1.
