@Eclap you dont need the extra cable unless your OC on the monitor dont work that comes with the cable that is provided. Try the monitor first then order a cable if its needed. The performance can vary from monitor to monitor.

Also i dont have to mess about with timings and such, most Overlords today go to atleast 96hz on Auto. The earlier ones you had to fiddle with timings/settings etc. Mine goes to 120hz on auto.
LOL I think you misunderstood me. I was agreeing with you. 60Hz no vsync looks a bit stuttery in certain situations in front of 100Hz.

Let us know if you can hit 120hz or so. Most people who OC with amd hit a wall at 100ish hz and CF is even worse apparently.

Looking forward to the results, how long is your estimated delivery? To be honest, I've been a bit confused about this entire push for 4K for awhile. The logical step from 1080p in my eyes has always been 1440p. It's managable with current single card solutions and is a massive upgrade from 1080. It's like the big companies want to leapfrog a step imo.

Anyhow, I'm off to chug a mug of coffee before I head out. Got an interview in just over an hour, so wish me luck!

Oh ok my bad.
Yeah i used to hear people like Agent A01 saying "60hz was like a slideshow etc cause of 120hz" and i used to think "It cant be that much different" but Agent A01 was right. It is nice to run at 100hz/120hz with vsync locked on and get no tearing while being really smooth.

To all you people buying a 120hz IPS...You will not regret it

What 100Hz wall? I've never seen that. There are loads of people with AMD cards and CF running 120Hz. I hit 117Hz and got slight artifacts at 120Hz which seems to come from my cable.

CF runs the same no matter the overclocks.

I'm running 109Hz now at auto since my timings were apparently too tight. They were working on Windows 8 though. I'll relax them a bit and crank the refresh rate above 110Hz now.

OK so I've been doing some OCing and tightening timings.

I got to 117Hz @ the following timings:

120Hz gives me a pixel clock of 459.86MHz and a 2 vertical lines of artifacting pixels. Most likely a cable issue as I'm still on the stock cable.

Gamma shift continues further on from 110Hz to 117Hz. When I set to 117Hz and applied the 110Hz color profile, I felt the monitor was ever so slightly darker. Popped over to http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gamma_calibration.php and gamma was (visually) about 2.3 - 2.4 @ 117Hz, 2.2 @ 110Hz.

Measured gamma quickly at 110Hz (a 30s test with black, grey 127, and white patches) and 117Hz. 110Hz gave 2.18 gamma, and 117Hz gave 2.34 gamma. Spot on.

When (if) I get to a flat 120Hz I'll calibrate for that as well. No sense calibrating for 117Hz as it will (may) not be a standard refresh rate that I'll be using.

Some photos coming right up of the monitor at: (EDIT: at night, right now the colors will be affected by the current ambient light)
1) 60Hz - no color profile
2) 60Hz - 60Hz color profile
3) 96Hz - no color profile
4) 96Hz - 96Hz color profile
5) 110Hz - no color profile
6) 110Hz - 110Hz color profile
7) 117Hz - no color profile
8) 117Hz - 110Hz color profile

@Overlord Tempest users, Agent-A01, Veteran, & others: How does the Overlord Tempest respond to high overclocks which it cannot handle? Let's say you top out at 108Hz or something, how does the monitor behave after that? Black screens, corruption, scan lines, vertical lines, or what? Do the colors change with overclocking? I've heard the IPS monitors (Catleap?) have scan line brightening as a side effect in contrast with the PLS gamma shift. I'd love to know if that is all due to the PCB.

nice, I will mess with profiles, I will also try your profiles. looking forward to the photos. tbh, I'll be fine with 96-110hz, anything above 96hz will be a bonus.

If i run at 96hz, 100hz, 110hz or 120hz there is no difference at all in visual quality. I know that Agent has a slightly older build than mine and he had to use manual timings to hit 120hz, mine goes 120hz on auto. Once i try to go to say 125hz the oc fails and i get a black screen.

The guys that make the Overlord are now in the process of creating the Worlds first 27 inch-120hz IPS-2560*1440- with Gsync.

Seems like PCB issues honestly. The Qnix PCBs don't black screen, they keep going until they artifact in some way or another.

Scribby seems to be making those PCBs, yeah. They could be fitted to the Qnix I'm guessing. We shall see.

You've gotta go get yourself a 30" if you want 16x10. Honestly once you start hitting these resolutions the whole 16:9 vs 16:10 argument becomes trivial.

I can't but agree with that. At 27" 1440p, the monitor looks more massive (vertically) than my 24" ViewSonic 1080p 16:9 monitor. I don't think I'd like 16:10 on 27".

30" ONLY if you want 16:10, they're generally inferior to 27" 1440p monitors. Generally grainy coatings, wider color gamut (negative), lower contrast ratio, more IPS glow, and of course more expensive.
