Default Cant install latest AMD Catalyst on Win 7, system crashs and blue screen - 11-27-2012, 11:25 | posts: 2

Hi all,

Whenever I try to install AMD catalyst in Win 7 the system crashs, a blue screen comes up and reboots.

Although without installing the AMD catalyst I can play games (like Dishonored, Sleeping Dogs etc), may be the windows 7 has installed the drivers itself but now I want to update my drivers (not by windows update but by AMD).

I had installed the Catalyst app sucessfully when I was using XP.

Please help me, how can I install AMD catalyst in win 7.

Unpack the drivers or if you already run the amd installer go to c:\amd\(version you have)\config" folder.

Open in notepad the file "InstallManager.cfg" and change the last line "WorkaroundInstall=false" to "WorkaroundInstall=true", save and close.

Go back a folder and run Setup.exe.

Post results.

Hi Adolfotregosa,

Thank you so much, a million thanks. It works like a charm. I just did it what you mentioned and its done. Now I can play Assassin creed 3 . Thanks again.

But I am wonder how did you get to this solution? becuase I see many people have similer issue but none of them would have used this fix for the problem.

Only exclusive driver packages remain after executing Catalyst setup with the workaround install option.

This trick also helps when the Catalyst installer, for some reason, refuses to install the driver, despite the hardware being plugged in and an older driver working perfectly.

I remember 3K series started BSODing on install on drivers after Cat 11.12 when I modded drivers, and the workaround option had to be applied or the installer would crash.

It's an old trick that still works in some circumstances even today I guess.

Indeed this is an old thread, have something to add here though.

I used to get this exact type of a problem back with my 5870 Crossfire setup, later on my Fury-X (under Win7 only for a few releases), and what I did was just install drivers from "safemode" manually. I'd run the setup shield, immediately cancel the installation after the drivers got unpacked, reboot to safemode, install them manually, reboot normally, then install CCC.

Have a suspicion that this would achieve the same end goal, although both require unpacking the driver installer as is and thus are probably the same amount of work.

Just as a side note you can use 7zip to extract the drivers without having to fake install them just to get the files extracted.
