Default SDI over fiber to IP - 03-13-2017, 19:27 | posts: 1

Hi guys, I have sdi over fiver extender kit, I think to splice cable in the middle and with passive optical splitter deploy the second outgoing cable to SFP module for cisco switch, would it work as sdi to ip?

Extender alone wont help you.
Because the SDI signal is not IP encapsulated with a basic extender kit.
You will only extend the range from the transmitter to the receiver. There is no media conversion from SDI to IP going on.

Secondly... splicing it will lose you 50% of the bandwidth and depending on your specific use case this may lead to problems.

You best option is to use a combined extender/converter unit like this:

Which device do you have? (the extender kit)
