Default 7690m leshcat driver issue - 07-29-2012, 21:51 | posts: 6

hi
i bought hp dv6 laptop w/ i5-2450m and 7690m 1gb

wasn't satisfied w/ gaming performance so i looked up online

found out hp 7690m is infamous for its horrible driver support

so i heard about leshcat's modified driver and i followed his instructions

on how to delete previous drivers clean/install DNE/install his latest driver,

which is catalyst 12.x jun12Unifl, and executed as described

booted up just fine, but i wanted to overclock the graphics card so installed

msi afterburner and went back to leshcat's overdrive enabler, which is supposed

to display overdrive menu in ccc but it fails to show up on mine

tried doing method of opening msiafterburner.cfg and changing

unofficialoverclocking number from 0 to 1...sliders go to zero but cannot move

any of them...i'm about to cry....somebody help me please

i would prefer ati overdrive menu but whichever works...

That is not the complete way to enable unofficial overclocking via config file.
You also have to fill UnofficialOverclockingEULA with I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it.

The alternate way is to run Afterburner with the /XCL switch, so you don't have to edit the config file.
Just open on the Run box (Win+R), browse for Afterburner's .exe file and add /XCL after it.
Something like this :
"C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.exe" /XCL
If run correctly, you'd get a message to reboot your computer in order to enable unofficial overclocking.

On both cases, however, you need to have this file present in Afterburner's installation folder.
For example, the /XCL method above won't work (no reboot message) if you executed it without putting the atipdlxx.dll file first.
That file used to be included with Afterburner's installer for a couple of versions back before it's being removed post 2.2.0 IIRC.

still doesn't gimme a reboot message
right-click property then changing the command gives me an error message...

And what's the error message?

You only need to run /XCL once, so don't edit its property on the desktop shortcut.
Run it with the way I've explained above.

If it doesn't do anything then there's something wrong with your driver installation.
Besides, what you're using is not the latest since there's Catalyst 12.7 Jun28 UnifL.

You may need to uninstall the drivers, restart, install Atiman Uninstaller (disable UAC first), run it, just select Auto mode, and follow the rest.
After everything's done, install the latest Leshcat drivers, but don't install the Overdrive fix.
Try running Afterburner again with the /XCL switch, and make sure atipdlxx.dll is present in C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner directory; I assume you're using 64-bit Windows.

.............still nothing...i did uninstall current driver with atiman and installed the

latest leshcat 12.7 driver but still no reboot message after the run

command...also in leshcat's forum he says msi ab 2.2.3 doesn't work on enabling

overdrive in ccc but switching to 2.2.1 works, which still doesn't do me

anything...i'm about to give up

What exactly is the specific model of your HP dv6?
'dv6' is just a generic model term for that Pavilion class.

You can also try installing the original drivers (after uninstalling leshcat's), then update the AMD drivers separately by manually updating it via Device Manager.
To update manually, just run a normal 12.7 Beta driver installer, wait until it finishes extracting, but don't continue installation and quit.
Then open Device Manager and locate your AMD card and update its drivers by pointing it to the directory where the installer extracted the driver files.
Normally it's under C:\AMD\.
