BIOS versions do not mean $hit.
It's the GPU version/revision that counts...

so is there any way at all to mod the newer 6600gt's to quadro cards?

Not yet, but there is always hope someone will do it in the future - don't forget there is a huge lot of creative people on the net... ;)

I've read posts by AlecRyben and others referring to difficulty with "Quadro" modding 6600 & 6600GT cards that are AGP.

Apparently the requirement for a complete mod to Quadro are:

    6600 + PCIe + (Rev. 1-3) = full Quadro softmod

However, a 6600 Rev1-3 AGP card is only partially moddable.

Apparently the 6600 is PCIe native, and needs a bridge chip, which also has device ID hardwired and unfortunatly prevents the mod.
The partial mod seems to accelerate performance, and enable pro features.. so I'm ASSUMING that a partial Quadro mod is all Quadro except in name, and only applications that specifically check will care or know.

Questions for AlecRyben or anyone who knows:

Will a NVstrapped 6600 (or 6600GT) AGP perform as a similar Quadro, in all applications that don't deliberatly check ID?

Has anyone tested Maya or SPEC benchmarks on a modded 6600 AGP?

What applications have been tetsed to work with a partial 6600 mod?

What applications will still fail with the semi-Quadroed 6600 AGP?

Anything else to know about Quadro and 6600 AGP?

Probably yes, but i guarantee nothing - NVIDIA may introduce driver changes that will disable pro caps if the PCI-ID is not a Quadro...

My advice to you is this: If you are stuck on AGP, try swapping the 6600 for a 6800LE... those cards perform great with pro caps and NVSTRAP to Quadro.

Thanks for the info, AlecRyben. This is for an AGP machine that I don't want to totally overhaul, yet.

Thinking I may just go X700 or X800 and mod to FireGL to avoid all the Nvidia hassle.

Anyone have experience with that? It's supposed to be easy, works well, and with no protection right?
