Hi there great Guru boffins. I currently own an i5 2500k, jacked to 4.5Ghz. The card I am currently using is an Asus AMD 7979 Ghz Edition. The poor thing is starting to show its age. While it runs everything just fine it struggles with Elite Dangerous at max settings and Arma 3's view distance.

Can you please recommend a graphics card that would be managed by the i5 2500k? I have looked at the Fury X and the 480 series. Viable upgrades or do I need to get a new mobo and cpu etc.?

I would hold off until AMD comes up with their 590 / Fury 2 offerings with Vega. As for the CPU, that's just fine for gaming. Heck, my 950 @ 4GHz is doing great. :)

If I had to buy something now, I would look for a cheap Fury.

If you target 60 fps gaming, then CPU is just fine for now.
As for GPU, RX480 matches well 4.5GHz Sandy i5. RX580 may be good choice too.

But any stronger and you'll find GPU to be too often underused.
