Hi

I was wondering does any one have a custom preset that works good with Diablo 2? The default presets work great for most games except For d2? Or any suggestions on setings to ajust on the standards preset to make Diablo 2 run better?

    1.2 AMD
Geforce 2 Ultra
Want of coures best looking, and for some strange reason the FSAA makes D2 look blurry and washed out.

    If u use expansion 800*600

if not there's a mod that will enable 800*600, use google as i forgot the adress( although i suspect i saw a note at diabloii.net)

Mipmapping page:
Lod -0.5
Enabled User mipmap

Note u could try even lower lods but i don't recommend it.

Then FSAA
if u use release 6 (6.xx,7.xx) then 4x with mipmap but not the 4x with special filtering as it blurs
if 10,11,12.xx then 4x

in game setting
Enable high lightning, blended shadows, perspective, etc
Oh and from vidtest choose direct3d not ddraw
And very important use at least 1.03 patch, as it fixes problems with 64 mb geforces as ultra is

Wow this is strange It still comes up blurry with 4x on. I used the settings you said. Oh and by the way is it me or can any of you guys use anisortopy under texeture filtering on D2? When it is left on forced level 2 things have a wired black out line.

So this is what I am doing just to recap I am loading the High Quality Preset then going into the menus and changeing the option you said to. Any other suggestions?

Oh and again thanks for all the help. Oh and I am using 12.41 drivers.

U could try this but with care:

Lower further your lod.

Stop when u feel your eyes spinning and u have a headache

-0.5 is safe, i for one can't stand unreal at -2, terrible headache, but it depends on person, i know people who at -2 are just fine.

So try different settings.

D2 doesn't support anisotropic filtering to the best of my knoledge.( i would be surprised if it uses trilinear at all).

If u want max perf/qual for Diablo2 (DX7 game) u must use
7.97 detonator.

Also use the 2nd 4x fsaa mode (2*2 with mipmaps scaled to the 2*2 res), although u might think that the third 2*2 fsaa (special)would be better it actually isn't brecause of it's blurring filter.

So try 7.97 with these settings and then post your impressions.

    Hi,

I tryed your suggestions they work great except when I enable any FSAA D2 because blurry. I did not chnage drivers yet but this is a strange problem.

If u didn't changed drivers that means u use 12.xx with their multisampling fsaa.
While faster then supersampling it has this side effect of bluriing. But Diablo2 barely touches a Tnt1 so u have more horsepower than u need.
Why did i recommended u 7.97? If u look at drivers benches throughout the net, even here at guru3d is an article about it, you'll notice that 7.97 are the greatest drivers for DirectX7 games. (which all the games on the market right now are afaik.)
And beside speed, they also use supersampling which is best looking fsaa tech (theorethically speaking max quality requires supersampling algoritm 4*4+ 64-128 samples anisotropic but that would require probably a geforce 20 )
So beside being faster the 7.97 can give u better quality with Diablo2.

And if you're into Diablo u must try the Lord of Destruction Exp. It's great, and works super smoothly at 800*600. But it's a lot harder. My 45 Barb who could finish hell/river of flame barely made it into nightmare act5.
