My brother is gonna upgrade his PC - again - (stupid kid, he wastes money like an ass) since he is having a hard time playing Battlefield 3 and NFS The Run.

Anyway, he has no brain so he asked me for advice for his upgrade.
I know Sandy Bridge is the best option, but I just can't stop this feeling lol

Since his current one is an AMD build, I want it to stay that way.

    Specs are:
    Athlon II x2 250 @ 3.5 Ghz
    Asus M2n68-AM SE2
    Inno3d GTX 460 768 mb OC
    3 GB DDR2 RAM

Just for the fun of it, I want to use the 8 core Bulldozer for his new one.
I know it sucks, but I want to see for myself.

Its a cheap-o build with these components in mind:

    Mobo
    http://pcx.com.ph/components/motherboards-1/asus-m5a78l-m-lx-760g-vsl-ddr3.html

    RAM
    8 GB 4x2 G.Skill Ripjaws
    http://pcx.com.ph/components/memory/g-skill-ripjaws-8gb-1333-10666cl9d-2x4.html

    CPU
    [AMD FX-8150

    Vcard
    Inno3d GTX 560ti
    http://pcx.com.ph/components/graphic-cards-1/inno3d-gtx560-ti-1gb-ddr5-256bit-hdmi-1.html

    Power Supply
    Seasonic X-Series 560w 80+
    http://pcx.com.ph/components/power-supplies/seasonic-x-series-560w-80-gold.html

Is it good for a budget/AMD/fun build?
I know I'm trolling my brother but he doesnt care

Go for a 900 series chipset....and a better PSU. 560watt is too low....

The only thing you will gain from going AMD is higher power consumption, more heat and less performance in games. Do the world and/or whoever pays his power bills a favor and go Intel.

If you can't be talked out of it the only problem i see is the motherboard says this "Supports CPU up to 95 W" but the AMD FX 8150 has a TDP of 125W.

^^doubt that. seriously though buying a whole new m/b for a BD is a bad decision. can he pop in a thuban in his current board? otherwise 2500k memory m/b with a good aftermarket cooler.

At 4.4ghz, if he managed to get 100% load on CPU and GPU at the same time.....that power supply might explode.....lol j/k

I don't see how upgrading that PC again is a waste of money given how slow the mobo and CPU are.

Why be a dick about it, just get what's best value for the money which right now is the 2500.

Every sister is always mad at her younger brother. :D

Really, I thought that it was enough. But since it is an unlocked processor then perhaps getting I bigger PSU might be better so I can overclock it.

I just want to try out FX 8 core, my rig is already Intel so I want to see how the FX performs.
Oh, I didn't realize that the board I chose only supports 95W :O

Yeah? Maybe I'll try to talk him into it and get a better video card. Or perhaps I can get him a Radeon so that it will his AMD + AMD vs. my Intel + Nvidia

I'm just being a d**k because its my brother's PC and not mine. :D

and besides he's a noob and would really be happy to see the 8 cores thinking that it would beat my i5 with 4 cores. :pc1:

If that's the case, do the following:

    1. Tell him to give you all the money he wants to spend on his new pc.
    2. Go to ebay
    3. Find the following:

-AMD 64 3000+ => put a sticker on it that says "FTW Edition 12 cores!!" and tell him it's a new cpu from amd that kicks Ivy bridge a$$.
-Cheap 512MB DDR ram => tell him it's some new über class superfast ram. Also with a sticker "b!tching fast!".
-Mobo => any socket 939 will do, find the cheapest.
-300W psu => also the cheapest you can find. Paint it black so it looks awesome.
    -Nvidia FX5200 128MB => tell him it's big Kepler.

    4. With the rest of the money (which will be a lot) treat your friends and me on a nice night out!

What did he do to you to get him a Bulldozer cpu for gaming? Seriously, just advice him to go for a i5 2500K and then give him a titty twist or something :D

That way his pc will kick ass and you made him suffer ;)

You want to make your brother deliberately waste his money on an inferior system? The AMD Bulldozer chips are crap, everyone except AMD will tell you this.

I don't really understand the point of this thread.
