New Devil's Canyon build I've finally gone and done it. After about 2 years of talking I've finally bought a new PC. The specs: i5 4690K GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-GAMING 3 Corsair Vengeance Black 2x4GB DDR3 1600mhz Corsair Carbide 500R case Corsair RM 750W PSU Pioneer DVR-221LBK DVD drive SanDisk Ultra Plus 256GB SSD The whole thing came to just over £600. Going to put windows 7 Pro 64x on it and use the GTX760 I have at the moment and use it as a purely gaming PC. My current build is going nowhere and is going to remain my PC for everyday use. Only changes will be to remove all the overclocking and replace the GTX 760 with my old GTX 460. Pics and overclocking to follow, once all the parts arrive! I'm so excited! This is my first entirely new PC since 2008!!
My case is out of stock so it won't arrive until Tuesday now. :bang: This has given me the opportunity to have a bit of a rethink however, and I have decided to change a few things: I found the same SSD new on eBay for much cheaper so I've cancelled that and bought it on eBay instead. I'm changing the motherboard to the ASUS Maximus VII Ranger. Paying an extra £10 for the Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB 2400MHz ram. And I'm upping the PSU wattage to the Corsair RM 850W. Without the SSD it worked out at almost exactly the same price.
Looks sweet mate, hope you enjoy it. You will see a MASSIVE performance increase going from an old Core 2 Quad to a current i5 Haswell CPU A few things to note, I would stay away from SanDisk they are very budget when it comes to hardware they maybe cheap but remember you get what you pay for. I would go for a Samsung 840 EVO over the SanDisk anyday, you will get more performance, a better warranty, and better support as well with firmwares. Yes it will cost more but not too much. Where are you buying from?
Thanks mate! Unfortunately I've already ordered the SSD, I did consider the Samsung, but it was either a 256GB SanDisk or a 120GB Samsung and I'm finding the 120GB Corsair I have at the moment a little too small. A couple of my mates are thinking of getting an SSD, maybe I'll sell it to them and get a better one for myself. Apart from the SSD, I'm buying it all from Novatech. I've been going to them for years. http://www.novatech.co.uk/
I was going to wait a while to get a CPU cooler but I've changed my mind. I can't make my mind up between the Corsair H100i or the H110. What does everyone else think?
H110, hands down. btw why dont you want i7 4790k? Also Asus z97 has better uefi with more options. :nerd:
With my new rig I am going for the h110 because I want as much cooling performance as possible. The h100i has that link software has a lot of detailed information. The h110 does not.
Thanks guys, I'll get the H110 then! I think I prefer it's simplicity and lower noise anyway. I'm going for the i5 as I don't really have any use for hyper threading. This will be a purely gaming PC and there isn't that much difference between the 4790k and 4690k in games. The extra 2MB cache would have been nice but I don't think it justifies the price hike. Edit. I also plan to upgrade to Broadwell when it comes out, so I may go i7 then. Yeah, I was only going to get the Gigabyte board because it was being offered with a free corsair headset, but they ran out of headsets so I chose the Asus Maximus VII Ranger instead.
Well there has been a problem with the supplier for the case, subsequently all the parts bar 2 have only just been dispatched. It should all arrive on Monday, which is a good thing as I have all of next week off to play with it! Two parts which have arrived: I'm tempted to try out the H110 on the Q9650...
