This is my friend's rig and here is his full spec. i7 3770k Two Asus Titan X in SLI PSU SEASONIC Platinum 1000W P8Z77-V DELUXE 16GB DDR3 @1600 KINGSTON HYPERX FURY RED SSD 120 GB 1.0 TB HDD WD SATA-3 BLACK Driver 353.30 Windows 8.1 (up to date) IMO, this should be a powerful setup, but performance doesn't seem to scale properly. Performance seemed to be held back by something. To make it easy to understand, here are situations. FYI, all games were run with VSync off. I will not add images as "image attachment", as they can be huge, so please click the links. - At 1080, framerate is too low for the hardware of this caliber. Below is GTA5, and you can see that the rig only pushed out 44 FPS at 1080 http://www.mx7.com/i/4f3/1C9Pyg.jpg I noticed something strange: -- GPU load is only 60% and 57% -- CPU load is only around 40-60% per core So based on the above, my conclusion is that, this should "not" be a CPU bound situation, as CPU load is nowhere near maximum. Here are some more shots of GTA5 that exhibit this issue. http://www.mx7.com/i/151/ry39sR.jpg http://www.mx7.com/i/caa/cG7ott.jpg http://www.mx7.com/i/137/6lYqF5.jpg Note again that VSync was OFF. This is also the case with many other games tried on this system. Here are some more shots from Witcher 3 at 1080 http://www.mx7.com/i/720/mryLAW.jpg http://www.mx7.com/i/776/B24VTX.jpg VSync was OFF and maximum frame was set at UNLIMITED for Witcher. Interestingly, when only one card was used, more FPS was the result. http://www.mx7.com/i/183/vxKiwx.jpg Also note that with one card, the GPU usage was 97% (as it should be since the VSync was off). -------------------------------- The only way to push both GPUs (and CPU) harder was to run it at higher res. Below is GTA5 at 4K (DSR), and you can see that both cards were run at almost 100% load. http://www.mx7.com/i/602/wDJnG8.jpg --------------------------------- Something seems to be off with the SLI setup. These are what my friend tried: - re-install windows several times - check and re-seat SLI cable - switch the VGA order (upper and lower cards) - O/C the CPU to 4.5Ghz - reduce PSU load (by removing unnecessary HDDs, fans, etc) to see if this is due to insufficient power. - recheck to see that both VGA run at proper speed (PCI-E Gen3) None of the above resolved the problem. So what to you guys think might cause this issue? Any comment would be appreciated.
Higher resolution, 1080 is not going to scale well with 2 titan x imo. I run 1440p and performance is excellent.
2 Titan Xs are such a complete waste for 1080p... There is no issue, it's just simply that 2 Titan Xs are way too much power for 1080p, thus not all of it is not used, it's reflected in the gpu usage as well... Ofc the cpu can hold back in some cpu bound scenarios, but in such cases the only thing you can do is increase resolution.
I agree that 2 Titan Xs are overkill for 1080, but don't you guys think it's strange that the rig can't even push 60fps at 1080? CPU bound or not, the rig should be able to do more than 44FPS at a mere 1080 resolution. One thing I can't quite wrap my head around is why wouldn't the GPU(s) run at higher load when VSync was deactivated? Since there is nothing to hold them back.
Try different driver? 353.49 is ok. Also when it loads the game for 1st time alt+tab, sometimes it can glitch render.. E.g. vsync on and it caps to 30fps, alt+tab normal 60fps vsync again. Btw GTA5 never really has high Cpu usage, but it can be bottleneck by ultra grass and maxed extended detail distance.
Guru3D recommend 900w minimum PSU for Titan X SLI. Edit: my bad, I see your spec doesn't represent your PSU.
I haven't played GTAV since upgrading to dual Titan X's so I fired it up and I'm getting between 85 and 120 fps with all setting maxed out at 2560x 1080 (driver=353.45/cards=1392/7200). I believe you're right to think something is up with your system. Question is what's wrong. You can always try one card at a time to ensure both are functioning properly and if they are try one of the cards in the second slot as well. It can't hurt trying another sli bridge either.
Dual Titan-X is for 4K gaming. If you don't overkill anything below you have driver issue 'at least'. A better Cpu would obviously let you go a couple FPS higher but it won't be really noticeable except in benchmarks and depending on the game... We're talking about 5FPS here, maybe 10FPS max...
A 3770K SHOULD be enough to get more than 44 FPS, something is definitely wrong. Then again I haven't run GTA 5, maybe it's not optimized at all and pisses away CPU cycles for nothing... just like everything else Rockstar has ever so much as looked at. As a side note, as the others said, SLI Titan Xs are wasted at 1080p. Your friend should get a 1440p monitor.
gta v runs great on this rig at 1440p and my kids rig I just built him with a 2500k at 4.40 with sli 780ti at 1440p too.
Idk I have yet to see it in MP, don't play SP Out of my head, maybe 60-70% per core, but only when I switch to self radio and it starts doing some encoding.
