Default ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Drivers - 08-08-2012, 11:35 | posts: 2

Hi guys. I have a HP Pavilion dv6-3132tx with an inbuilt ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. It suffers from occasional driver crashes, mostly when it comes to the youtube player and other flash-based web elements. My current driver (the official HP driver) is 8.741.1.1000 (dated 21/06/2010). This driver is total garbage and as you likely know I can't just grab the latest one from the ATI site. A friend suggested I try the drivers here, but I'm not sure which ones to get.

Would someone kindly direct me to the most suitable Win 7 64bit driver for this card?

Personally, I recommend sticking to 11.11c.
It's the latest version that doesn't show green Flash videos when hardware acceleration is turned on, handles DXVA properly, and doesn't crash WinSAT media test.
WinSAT is what produces WEI (Windows Experience Index).
Anything after that, 11.12 and 12.1 Preview included, screws what I've listed above.

If you don't mind those things, then any of the latest would work fine.
The safest bet is to just use 12.7 Official Beta.

i cant agree. The best for me is the 12.4 whql because i overclock my card so after reset clocks to idle,it havent flashing lines when i am scrolling.

No problems whatsoever with 12.7 Beta, even with OC-ing.
No flashing/flickering lines or whatever that is with Waterfox at the least, even with hardware acceleration turned on.
You probably didn't do a clean install.

Cheers guys, I'll give the 12.7 a go first.

Update:

Ok, so I've had the 12.7 drivers going for a while now and everything is running smoothly. My video card now shows up as "AMD Radeon HD 6500M/5600/5700 Series" and a GPU temp desktop gadget doesnt pick it up anymore, but it seems much more stable. I was streaming video in 360-480p (limited by net speed) again without the whole system slowing down.

Thanks guys!
