So I probably made a mistake by going for Caviar Greens rather than Hitachi's or Seagate's, but I've just always had good luck with WD. Is anyone running these? Just wondering if people have too much trouble with these. I needed some more storage for my photo/audio/video editing and I needed better speed than 5mb/s I was gettin off my USB drive through the network, so I caved for a NAS. Workin' great so far Next step is to get a second nic and use link aggregation.
Both 1TB Caviar Green disks I've had didn't last as long as the two 500GB Seagate and 2TB Samsung drives I have, so, no, I'm not going to use Caviar Green drives for any prolonged usage. The last one I had had delays on almost the entire disk. No, it's not bad sectors, but still makes writing/reading data quite slow. Personally, I won't use Caviar Green drives on a cramped enclosure; these drives just die after a year or so. Probably too sensitive to high temperature; dunno really. The enclosure I use is this one. The last Caviar Green drive that died was used along with the Samsung and Seagate drives I stated above, and they're always on 24/7; replaced it with a 2TB Barracuda Green. Anyway, good luck with those drives. I certainly didn't have any luck with them. =/
