I have the same issue. Everything starts fine and then the system crashes. Only on high spec games like Quake Arena, Incoming etc. System is 6 months old, 128 MB, PIII 450 etc. HELP!!!

  3. Did you guys try the latest drivers (directx and reference drivers for voodoo 3 ?)

It seems its more than one of us who have this problem. My voodoo 3 2000 pci is a pretty good card but most games hang after 2-5 mins as well. Strange thing is it runs stuff like quake III and unreal with no probs but it cant take alien vs predator, resident evil and loads of other games. The wierd thing is I used to have it in my pentium 166 motherboard and everything was fine. I now use a amd 450 with a gigabyte GA5AX motherboard and it locks. I am pretty sure this is a motherboard problem but I have tried the other pci slots with no luck. But its a new motherboard and even my old voodoo rush runs alien vs predator in my gigabyte any suggestions ?
Email: david_h@voodoo32.freeserve.co.uk

How about trying an AMD patch or AMD compatible drivers?

Where would we find those, Glidefan? A URL would be very helpful, since there seems to be nothing at AMD's site or 3dfxgamers.com.

Have same problem - AMD k62 350, VOODOO3 3000 AGP, hangs 5-10 mins after start playing. So far it only affects D3D games, so UT and quake 3 (glide and OpenGL) are all fine. I have the latest drivers for everything and have clean-installed the op-system. So far the leads im tracking are:
-Overheating (gonna fix a fan to it)
-AGP BIOS drivers (gonna try chipset reference)
-all data may not be removed when reformatting from FAT32, so im going to revert.
best of luck guys, can someone mail me if they find a solution - cm.rawlings@btinternet.com
cheers
Sorry about that double post
I found on the gigabyte site the bios update,
http://www.gbt-tech.co.uk/
support/motherborda/
Choose Ali chipsets and lookj for the 5ax section. download 5ax_f3.zip.
I had to make a bootdisk with NO other drivers loaded to ensure there was enough memory for the bios update.
This seems to have solved my problems, i.e. Battlezone now lasts longer than about a minutes. I played for about 15 minutes and it was fine.
Hope this helps.
Om

I recently upgraded an ati rage II+ to ATI Rage Fury Maxx(the bomb) but same problem as here... I got pissed off, and got the Voodoo 3 3000 agp. Same problem, tho mine seems to last about 1/2 hour and only hangs on some games ( I don't have many) All indications would point to overheating? The ATI Rage Fury Maxx has dual processors with fans. That wouldn't be overheating, would it? Bios upgrade with a new chipset? I'm checking that now... Where can I get a fan for my card? Thanks in advance!

I've got the same problem with my Voodoo 3 2000 PCI. Games usually last about 20 minutes and then freeze. I looked for an updated Bios for my motherboard (J-Mark 530BF) and their site said that Bios updates should only be done by a professional. I called the shop I bought the PC and the Voodoo card from and they said they wouldn't do it for me and didn't recommend it at all, in fact they've been no use with this problem at all!! Can someone tell me if updating the Bios is an easy thing to do?

Bios updates are done from dos and usually all u have to do is to start the exe programme.

I tried to update my Bios and it all went horribly wrong, so I reinstalled the old Bios again. I've used powertweak to enable the K6 write option, but this didn't help. Strange thing is though that I've been playing Half Life and it runs fine. I'm using OpenGL for this and there are no problems running the game, but if I exit a game and then try to resume the game it freezes. Also if I save a game it crashes to desktop rather than returning to the game. I've run out of ideas now, any more suggestions would be welcome.

    Hi,
I have had much the same problem with an AMD K6-2 350 overclocked to 400 Mhz on an old ASUS motherboard with a voodoo 3 2000. Power tweak has solved the problem and the system is now stable. Other things that were required to stop the graphics hanging included increasing the PCI latency to 64 clks and ensuring PCI concurrency was enabled in powertewak as well as in the BIOS settings. This problem with Voodoo 3 and AMD K6's only affects Direct 3d games and only those that are quite intensive to run.
Jacko
