The first 'review' on a Haswell refresh processor leaked today, the review entails the Core i7-4790 which got tested on an unknown Z97 motherboard. The processoris only slightly faster than a i7-4...

I was hoping for overclockability and temperatures :p It's the non-k ... Oh well.

I wont risk my 4770K for that.

Mine does 4.5 GHz @ 1.175 volts now... chances are extremely high that a new CPU wont even manage 4.2 GHz.

I hate how Intel gives us performance...little by little!I was hoping that I`ll upgrade from my 2600K but I guess I`ll have to wait untill Skylake.

True, but it proves just how much of a performance jump Sandybridge was, so we both bought CPU's at the right time - no need to upgrade for years! Also, most users don't need to upgrade their CPU's for more power - GPU's are more important for gaming, especially now with reduced CPU overhead of Mantle/latest NVidia drivers/DX12. Bet your 2600K overclocks really well too, better than a lot of Ivy Bridge/Haswell.

    Sandybridge ftw. I have a 2500K.
    4.3GHz@1.2V and 4.9GHz@1.4V. Just sweet...

I feel you, and it's not all that bad. like someone mentioned above, we just got our cpus at a great time. and 4.8 ghz when I need it is just ridiculous. I've been using this cpu for almost 3 years already, and by how things are moving I'm waiting another 3.

Man I thought of upgrading to Z97 from my current rig now I am not so sure. I guess We will have to wait until some time in June when the unlocked CPUs come out.

    I don't get what people expect, it's a refresh..

Plus Intel hasn't focused on single threaded performance in forever. Desktop market is shrinking and their current generation processors are more than capable of delivering enough performance for 90% of the userbase.

The focus for them is mobile and all their architecture enhancements are going to focus solely on that.

what? what on earth are you talking about, risk for what? And whole selling point on refresh is "improved overclock ability"..............................

Probably won't be a reason to really upgrade up until DDR4 hits the market for anyone owning a 2500/2600K or better.

Yes, that's what I'm waiting for -x99. I'm hoping that will last me as long as my 2600k has.

Just for the lulz, Cinebench 11.5 @ 4.7ghz :nerd:

I wonder if 4790K will be the same, I have a feeling it will be 4.5 - 4.6ghz guarantied anything more same draw of luck

EDIT: just checked overclock.net and yeah guess me and Svarog are really lucky to have such lowV 4770k chips, just saw one 4770k @ 4.4ghz 1.34v or another 4.2ghz 1.35v..

Still able to run all my games maxxed out with my dual 680's. I may skip z97 and see what comes next.

If AMD starts phasing out their x86 market in favor of ARM, it looks like intel at some point will be their own downfall. While the lack of competition causes intel to increase prices and lowers their yearly progression, they're not going to gain any sales if nobody is interested in their releases. The stupid thing is that intel doesn't need the extra money. If they really want to put AMD out of business, they'll make competitive prices.

I think it's a good idea to upgrade from my 8320 to a 4790k and saving for a haswell-E or brodwell-E and x99 platform for later

Yeap agree, the only reason i aint installed my 4930k is because this x58 with GPU flys along comfortably with nice high frame rates.

This is just the locked CPU we have a whole month or so to wait until the K based CPUs to be out. I also think it would be a great Idea for me to go z97 and go with the 4790k CPU from my lonely Core 2 Quad Q6600.
